The future of space travel is at your fingertips at this center that aims to educate the world about commercial space travel through fun and informative exhibits.

Spaceport America is a fascinating modern hub for revolutionary travel beyond the earth’s atmosphere. It is an intriguing center for curious kids and adults and a port for space pioneers, such as Virgin Galactic and SpaceX. Learn about the complex’s mission of making affordable space travel a reality in the near future.

Wander around the vast complex, which was constructed in 2006 and covers an area of 18,000 acres (7,300 hectares). Admire the spectacular modern designs of the terminals that look like science fiction inventions. Capture photos of these futuristic hubs set against the scenic backdrop of the red mountains of Sierra County. The space port contains Virgin Galactic’s WhiteKnightTwo and SpaceShipTwo as well as SpaceX’s Falcon 9R.

Book a tour in advance for a thorough understanding of the technology and the values of this futuristic site. Watch short films and chat to docents to learn fascinating facts about space and the Earth’s place within it. Climb into the spinning G-Shock Trainer for a sense of the force that astronauts experience.

Check the website for schedules of public launches to attend one of the unforgettable events. Peruse items with the Spaceport America brand for sale in the gift shop.

The visitor center is open daily from morning until late afternoon, while early tours are available Thursday through Monday. A fee applies for admission with discounts available to local residents and those under 18 years of age. It is essential to arrive with company, since the complex refuses solo entries to discourage lone travel with limited cell phone service and no service stations.

Spaceport America is in the Jornada del Muerto desert basin in the southern section of New Mexico. Drive southeast from the town of Truth or Consequences for 25 minutes to get here. Park on the adjacent streets for free. Nearby landmarks include the San Andres National Wildlife Refuge, the White Sands National Monument and Timber Mountain.
