The Sky Tower is Auckland’s most prominent landmark. The 1,076-foot (328-meter) tower offers views that stretch for 50 miles (80 kilometers) in every direction. Look out over the city, across the harbor and up to the mountains.
The main observation deck is reached via one of three glass elevators, which will take you to 610 feet (186 meters) above the city. The elevators can carry more than 220 people up every 15 minutes, so you’re not likely to be waiting long for a ride.
The main observation deck has glass floors. Once there, you can send a postcard from the highest mailbox in the Southern Hemisphere, or explore Auckland on touch-screen computers.
There’s a second viewing platform higher up the tower with almost seamless floor-to-ceiling glass windows. This Sky Deck comes at an additional cost to the main observatory ticket, but at 722 feet (220 meters) high, it offers the best view of Auckland.
If soaring like an eagle appeals to you, take the plunge with Sky Jump, a cable-controlled jump from 636 feet (194 meters) above the ground. Fall at up to 50 miles per hour (80 kilometers per hour) over 11 seconds, before coming to a controlled stop on the ground below. Alternatively, you can get strapped into a harness and walk along a thin platform that surrounds the tower 636 feet (194 meters) up.
Three restaurants make the most of the tower’s views. A fine-dining restaurant rotates 360 degrees every hour. Stop for a coffee during the day or a cocktail at night at a café and lounge bar, or feast on an all-you-can-eat buffet.
The Sky Tower is in the center of Auckland and easily reached on foot or by public transport. Receive a discount on parking in the Skycity car park.
It’s open until late at night every day of the week.
