Sunset House - Private Pool - Beautiful Views - Amazing Value- Early check-in

Prices have been slashed about 25% to offset your higher food and energy bills. Also, if possible, we'll let you check in at noon rather than 4pm so you can have a full day when you arrive. Early check-in requires no rental the night prior to your day of arrival.
We call our place the 'Sunset House' because the sunsets from the master bedroom balcony are spectacular. You will want to reserve a time every evening to enjoy the fabulous glow. For the money, you won't find a better place!
One note, we have a custom home in a residential area of all custom homes and people live there full time. Please respect our friends. Extra loud music and big parties are not allowed.

We have recently updated many amenities in the house. We are not in downtown Playa Coco, but in Altos de Cacique on a cliff overlooking the town and Coco Bay. No worries about noise or mosquitos. Our private development is between Coco and Playa Hermosa.

We are certain you won't find a better value anywhere. We have a quality 2200 sq ft house with prices better than local quality hotels. Depending on the season, we may discount 8% for stays longer than 7 days, 10% for 15 days or more, and 15% - 20% for stays longer than 30 days.

1A) Our prices are the best of any place for what we have to offer. Our beautiful 3-bdrm 2 bath spacious home will satisfy most any traveler. We have a private pool.

1) Clear, magnificent, close unobstructed view of the mountains and ocean from a spacious patio, the pool, the master bedroom balcony/bed, one of the downstairs bedrooms, and a peek from the living area.

2) Short ride by car to 3 beautiful beaches

3) Large spacious home (2200sf) with a beautiful infinity pool. All granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances, and beautiful showers.

4) Management that has lived there for 20+ years and speaks English and Spanish fluently. He can assist you in whatever you wish to do

5) Our secure location in Los Altos de Cacique is excellent. Every home is custom. Great restaurants are 5 minutes by car away.

6) 45 Minutes from excellent surfing in Tamarindo or a 2 hour boat ride to Witch's Rock for truly world class surfing. A zipline is only 25 minutes from the house. A beautiful waterfall/swimming area is about 35 minutes.

7) We are 5 minutes by car between nightlife, good shopping, and good restaurants in Playa del Coco and a beautiful "Blue Star" beach and elegant restaurants in Playa Hermosa.

8) A great blend of 1st and 3rd world cultures

Great view, remote getaway, responsive owner
Easy to get to, check process super easy, house was clean. Owner was super flexible, and was very attentive. Lots of extras especially w beach gear that came in handy. So many great and remote beaches nearby. Loved them and the view!

Wonderful stay in Coco
Wonderful view and pool, the ice maker in the fridge was a great bonus! Francisco was great to deal with made sure we had everything we needed. The outdoor furniture could be upgraded as well as master bed mattress. Definitely need a vehicle, property is close to Coco Beach but up a very steep hill. Views were amazing and overall a great stay.

Beautiful view and private backyard where we spent most of our time enjoying the pool. The beds were a bit hard for my back. We didn’t need anything but food. Tom has everything u need there. Still have the old patio furniture. Francisco was the best. Responded to our texts quickly. Very good Property manager.

Such a lovely view!
This was a great location between Coco and Hermosa and the view really is amazing. The process was smooth, organized and Bernie was helpful and responsive. The house was comfortable and had the basics we needed. Very quiet spot if you are looking to relax and easy to get to all the fun stuff in the area.

Amazing view!!
The house was great, a little echo-y so if you're hard if hearing it's hard to hear 😁 beware of the time of year you are visiting, we stayed the end of March and the mountains were very dry and controlled burning was going on so the sky always had a haze of smoke. The pool was wonderful, neighbors nice and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Wonderful views
Nice house with wonderful views from several ares on the property and a great pool. The kitchen was good for cooking. It was clean and it was great for relaxing. The kitchen has a sliding glass door with no covering and that might bother some people. Communication was great. The only issue we had was that the listening mistakenly said it was a 3 min walk to Coco Beach and it would have been at least 15 mins on a very steep, no sidewalks,

Gorgeous Sunset House
This property is stunning. Best views in Playa del Coco, especially of sunsets over the bay. Incredible infinity pool. Very comfortable house. The property manager Bernie was very gracious and helpful, and he and the staff maintained the property well. Our thanks to Tom, the owner. Highly recommended!

Beautiful views.
This was our first trip to beautiful Costa Rica. The sunset house gave a great location to base our activities. The pool was lovely. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, dishes, etc... Bernie, the house manager, is fantastic. We never went without and Bernie helped us set up our fishing trip. Great guy, great house.... we will be back.

Loved the location, and home, descriptions were accurate. Only downfall, is it is in need of basic maintenance. Lawns could have been mowed, lawn furniture very weather fatigued and there was something very wrong with the grey water septic. we had to plug all drains to keep odors at bay.

Amazing Location
The views from this house were spectacular! My kids loved swimming while watching the sunset and underneath the stars. We got to see crazy storms roll by and enjoyed the small town of Coco and it’s nearby beaches. Definitely don’t be afraid to drive down some back roads to find smaller or more secluded beaches- we got to some that were just beautiful! The house itself could use some updates. Small kitchen appliances were out of date or slightly damaged. New outdoor cushions that are not torn or don’t fit the chairs would go a long way to help this space feel more put together/inviting. Over all, this house was great AND a few maintenance touches would help tremendously.

Sunset House
Great location, have stayed in same neighborhood previously. We had a slight mix up with the entrance code but resolved it on our own, #'s were reversed for the key box entrance. Ants were everywhere upon entrance. Dead & alive crawling up & down walls. In the floor around windows. Baths & bedrooms were clean but beds are sub standard. You should.consider replacing with Foundations & new mattress. Weeds in back yard along with hose & old lounge chair. I moved the hose & chair, they were unsightly. Weather & view were lovely. Sorry but i expected a little better because i know the neighborhood.

Gorgeous views!
Had a wonderful time staying at the Sunset House in Coco. Views, views, and more views! The backyard pool and views were amazing. Daytime views of the ocean were unbelievable but the sunset views are breathtaking. Close to town but far enough to not get too crowded. Bernie is so helpful with EVERYTHING! The house layout is perfect for the master on the 2nd level and the kids in the downstairs bedrooms. The open kitchen to family room with high ceilings was fantastic. The only issues we had was with the hot water. The shower knobs need replacing as it was difficult to get the knob to hot water because they are old and breaking. Bernie was VERY helpful and came immediately to fix everything and make sure we were happy. Overall, the house was beautiful, the customer service was excellent from Bernie, and our family had a wonderful time with memories to last a lifetime!

Falling apart
This property is in need of great repair. The owner and manager are super nice, however this house is literally falling apart. This house has the ability in my mind to be an amazing 5* hands down. Unfortunately it has been let go, all blinds are broken, many if not all of outside lights do not work, inside of house is rundown, quite dirty, there is an extremely bad odor of what we think is sewer gas on the second floor master bedroom, ( you need to leave bathroom window open) Pool does not work properly. We also did not like the fact that the manager let himself in one day while we were gone. (considering that we were always in contact with email) even if he was checking the place, should have let us know first. Personally, this could be an amazing property, but it is not, it is like they just gave up on it.

Wonderful!!!
We had the most wonderful stay at Sunset House. The property itself it beautiful. Every day we enjoyed spending time in the swimming pool (with Michael the lizard keeping a watchful, if wary eye on us). The view from the house is absolutely spectacular and we loved how open and spacious the home is. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to prepare dinners in, and we made great use of the fantastic outdoor grill. Mornings spent drinking coffee on the balcony outside of the master bedroom became a treasured ritual, and we have so many photographs of the sunset which is -spectacular. I also managed to photograph a comet and the Southern Cross which is not something visible to those of us from the Northern Hemisphere. We had a great time visiting nearby beaches including Playa Ocotol, Playa Hermosa, Playa Panama and – of course, Playa Flamingo. (I do not recommend following the Waze shortcut to get to Playa Flamingo as it will have you crossing a creek!) We also visited Poza Los Coyotes which was magical! We also spent an afternoon beach hopping with Marcy (contact through website My Tan Feet) going to secluded, crystal water beaches that can only be reached by boat. Dining out we had great meals at Mar Azul and Numu Taproom and Bistro. Our favorite was Verde Salvia on Boulevard Playas del Coco. This chef-owned restaurant serves authentic Italian food by an Italian trained, Italian born chef. Our second time at the restaurant we managed to book the chef’s risotto tab

Great family vacation!
We stayed at the house the first two weeks of June and had a great time. Our three kids absolutely loved the pool and spent a lot of time in there while my husband and I enjoyed drinks and the view from the patio. The patio furniture is new and was comfortable - more comfortable than the inside seating. We thought this location was great. You are close to many beaches, adventures and restaurants. This was our first trip out of the country with kids, so we were a little nervous about the language barrier, etc. Bernie was so helpful and kind. We got in late Sunday night and he met us at a grocery store and asked them to let us grab a few groceries while they were trying to close. He was always available by phone if we had questions. We loved the "private" beach, but hated the walk down to it and back up to the car in the heat and humidity. We wish since we were staying in an owners house that we would have been allowed to get a key down to the parking lot at the beach, but they wouldn't let us. The vertical blinds in the master bedroom were broken and wouldn't close, so they had a privacy screen in front of the sliding door which worked out fine. The bigger problem for us was the morning sun coming in the double doors to the room, but we solved that by draping towels over the windows. It's not the nicest place we've ever stayed, but it really is a great value for the money. Overall, we enjoyed the house and would stay there again!

It's all about the pool and view
We were looking for a house that was close to town/stores but quiet and private. This house was almost there. The neighbor behind us when at the pool looking at the view pictured would be looking at us if we were out to the left. The neighbor in front (to the right of the picture) was only partially blocked by plants. We did enjoy the view and fairly good breeze as it is hot in the sun. We were only one couple so house was plenty big. It would easily accommodate 6 people with they only issue being bathrooms. The master bathroom upstairs had very little water pressure. It was impossible to take a shower and hard to even wash hands. Flushing the toilet had to have 5 minute interval to allow water to fill tank again. Kitchen was large and well stocked with pots and pans, There was a lack of sugar, spices etc. but that is fairly common with these type rentals. This being the tropics, there was critters and bugs around - in particular ants along the wall going up the stairs. Not a bother to us, some would be. The main room is large and tall - hard for the one AC unit to keep cool. We are from south Florida so good enough for us if we let it run continuously. Better if left bedroom AC's run and flow into it too. The property manager was a great reference to some day-trips and had good driving directions. He hooked us up with a local fisherman for half-day close to shore trip at much lower price than any found on line. If we did go back to Coco, we would likely stay here again.

Our Anniversary at Sunset House
We went to celebrate our 25th Anniversary with two of our children, Bernie helped me with the venue for the celebration , which was beautiful and amazing fine dining and with the flowers place , I was able to order a beautiful cake from a local bakery which was the best cake we ever had ! And trust me we have had many cakes . I love cakes for all occasions! ( ElPastelero ) when it comes to the condition of the house , yes it needs serious TLC … new furniture , new mattresses, the ones right now are very uncomfortable, it needs paint , the porch and pool area also are in need of furniture , so as the master bedroom furniture . the sunset there is amazing , the views from the property are breathtaking…we really enjoyed the views and the property layout. Overall we had 11 amazing days there but with so little money the house can be a 5 star rental. I understand is Costa Rica but the bugs are everywhere .. ants specially, that almost ate my 12 year old alive which means it needs pest control inside and out . Also the neighbors dog do bothers every morning and also scapes and comes to the house , which I didn’t like because I had my girls with me . As far as fishing … I booked a fishing trip with The fisherman they use and it wasn’t great so beware .. he didn’t want to go deep fishing , just trolling which I specially requested no trolling since my husband doesn’t like it , in top of that the bait wasn’t good , was old and they weren’t biting , it was a disappointment ( my husband have many years fishing so he knew more than those two guys ) don’t waste your money with that fishing people ! We appreciate the help of Bernie and Thomas but as a traveler I recommend updating that house for better reviews and a comfortable stay for future guest.
