'Casa Ixchel' 2BR/2BA OCEANFRONT, Gold Std Certified, P00L; Why to stay with us!

When we first visited Belize about ten years ago, my wife and I fell in love with the people and the Maya culture. This passion led us to making “Casa Ixchel” (Maya goddess, pronounced ee-SHELL) our island home.
On the second story landing, you are greeted by a wooden Maya profile and our screen door carved with representations of the Maya gods of sun, moon, land, water and wind. Our main door simply says “Welcome”.
The open floor plan begins with a fully-equipped kitchen, native mahogany cabinetry and custom granite countertops and bar---and continues to the dining area with locally-made mahogany dining table and chairs. A metal palm-leaf screen separates the dining area from the spacious great room---furnished with wicker queen-size sleeper sofa, entertainment center, occasional tables, credenza, chairs and hassock (all made right here in San Pedro by Hummingbird’s).
French doors open onto the lanai, the beach breeze and the Belizean sunrise. A glass-topped table and propane grill make al fresco dining a “must”. Directly below lie landscaped grounds, tiled fresh-water pool area, beach and 300 ft. private pier with palapa, perfect for snorkeling and fishing.
From the lanai, a second set of French doors opens into the large master bedroom: king-sized bed, luggage bench, two chests and a comfy chair, all mahogany and wicker. The unbelievably huge master bath offers a Jacuzzi spa tub, separate shower, double sinks and more custom granite. There is even room for another Hummingbird chair and mirrored dresser.
The guest bedroom---with its white furniture, en suite full bath, queen-sized bed---is painted a light, tranquil green, suggesting an environment in tune with nature and the beach. The flooring consists of coral-pink Mexican tile throughout.
The décor of our entire condo/home reflects our love affair with Belize. Paintings by Belizean artists and native-themed art dominate our walls, embellished with whimsical frogs and geckos. One of our favorite paintings depicts our namesake “Ixchel” and her husband “Iztamna”, who are, in many accounts, the “mother” and “father” of Maya culture.
Of course, you can find nature’s beauty and bounty everywhere on “La Isla Bonita”. The turquoise waters, white sands and lush flora are available to all. So, why should you choose to stay with us?
Initially, we bought “Casa Ixchel” to share with family and friends. We decorated it and appointed it with that in mind. Then, we decided to make it available to others. Therefore, we are honored to share the blessings of our house with you: Ixchel and Iztamna…Bruce and Brenda…welcome you.
(Location, location, location: “Casa Ixchel”, one of Tranquility Beach Club’s nine units, is located 1.4 miles south of lively San Pedro, so privacy and relaxation reign. Easily accessible by taxi, boat, or golf cart, these condos have onsite 24-hour maintenance and security (thank you, Mr. Armando!), a small restaurant across the road (Lone Star Grill and Cantina) and, farther down, a little market (Marin’s Mini) for necessities.)

Great property - amazing location
We travelled for our first time to San Pedro - the his location was amazing. A quick drive to town, but quiet and friendly. Having Mary to help with reservations and planning was so helpful and appreciated.

San Pedro Place
Located on the beach with a nice pool and access to a couple really good restaurants. A bit out of town so you need a golf cart but a spacious property. Great management company.

Very relaxing and cleN
The property is well maintained and the condo was clean, comfortable and had all kitchen tools and then some to cook dinner. Loved walking out to the end of the dock every morning at 5:30 to watch the sun rise…very peaceful way to start our day!

Nicer than photos!
Very lovely condo in perfect location on the island. Quiet and private, very safe. Nice to have transportation included to/from the boat dock. Also appreciated the water jug. The dock was so nice, saw lots of interesting fish and even a sting ray! Everyone is friendly. The bar across the street is nice too, wish it was open for lunch. Main issue for us was the little biting gnats, we were covered with bug bites. But that was when we sat out on the beach area, no fault of the host.

Tranquility
Condo was great! Loved the location being at the South end of the island. It was quit and beautiful. Roger the grounds keeper was very helpful and knew a guy for everything. Golf cart was delivered. The complimentary taxi ride to and from was a great bonus. We will be back again.

Casa Ixchel is paradise
great place, great folks supporting it. Ambergris Caye is a great place to spend a week in and this property made it the more worthwhile. The décor was great and having two great restaurants within walking distance made it really easy to stay there. would definitely recommend it to all my friends. Next time I just have to spend more time fly fishing. So easy since the picked me up at our dock.

Get away
Very nice, clean and safe property. Good location about 2miles from town. Armando (caretaker of property) was very helpful and kept the beach immaculate. Nice to have the pool as a swimming option because we didn't go into the ocean from the beach out front. The pier was also a good option.

Most relaxing week ever
This is the most peaceful and relaxing property we have stayed at in many years. It is nearly a museum of interesting art as well. The area is quiet and charming without all the loud music and competition for beach chairs often found at big resorts. The rooms are big and comfortable. The back balcony has a remarkable view. Also, Mary from Caye Management was outstanding. Every question we had, every request we made, she was on it! 5 Stars to her for all her help. There are only a few things I would change about the place: Add thicker, higher quality mattresses. The oven and broiler don't seem to work. I like to cook and this prevented me from doing much. We could never get the door of the dishwasher open. We had a great time and would recommend this location to anyone looking for tranquility.

Correction!
I wanted to correct something I apparently messed up. I noticed my review was giving only 4 stars and I certainly meant for it to be 5 stars! I suppose I was in such a hurry to write my review and share our great vacation, that I hit the wrong button! Sorry about that, Bruce and Brenda! It was definitely a 5 star or better stay! Thanks!

Grea Place, Great Location
Couldnt ask for a better place to stay on the Island. The condo was all we had hoped for. It was awesome to sit on the patio and watch the sunrise in the morning over coffee or mimosas. The condo was just far enough out of town but still close enough to run into town whenever we wanted. You definitely need a golf cart. Dont book it ahead of time!! when you get there the golf cart shops are everywhere and you can barter to get a better much much better deal. If you dive I highly recommend Chuck and Robbie's. Ask them for the shark dive. I'm a dive instructor myself and that was possibly the best dive I've ever done. They also do fishing charters which was very fun and very cheap compared to what I'm used to paying. I think 200 dollars for 4 people. Cheers, Chris

Unbelizeable!
Both Belize and the condo are truly lovely -- exactly as described and promised. Lingering over coffee (and coconut bread from The Bakery!) each morning on the deck, taking in the amazing ocean view and enjoying the ever-present breeze, was a favorite activity. The condo supplies everything that one could need or want, and Armando and his dog became our good friends right away. He is so helpful and gracious, as was everyone that we met within and outside the complex. It was so handy to have the Lone Star Cantina right across the road for our late dinner on the evening that we arrived and takeout on two other nights. It was very easy to book our excursions by phone (two snorkle outings and a sunset catamaran cruise; we used Ramon's Village and were very pleased with their service) and be picked up right from our pier. And having our golf cart made it easy to explore the streets and beaches of San Pedro Town. One afternoon we took a private water taxi to the amazing beach bar at Azul Resort--the food and ambience were fabulous and it was a dog lover's paradise! All in all, this condo's location, amenities, decor and owner/management played a huge role in what was a perfect vacation. We'll be back for sure -- you better Belize it!

Just right
We really enjoyed both the condo itself and the location of the complex from San Pedro. It was close enough to San Pedro to be able to shop and eat conveniently, but far enough away that we weren't exposed to any of the party element that the town hosts, which is fine if you want that. I don't think the online pictures show how nice this unit is. We were very happy with the layout and how the unit was furnished. Armando, the caretaker, was a very helpful and very nice. I would definitely recommend renting a golf cart as it's just far enough from town to make walking back and forth a bit of a pain, but certainly doable if you're inclined. The beach area was sufficient (and we're beach people) and had plenty of coverage from the sun. The only negative of our trip was that the wind blew so hard the entire time that it prevented us from doing any of our planned water activities. Most tours (snorkeling and diving) were cancelled other than the mainland tours. It forced us to just sit back and relax and bit more than we'd planned. Not a bad thing really. We'll certainly be back.

Best vacation ever
We've been back from Belize for over a month, and I am still trying to get over my post-vacation blues. It was the most amazing vacation, for so many reasons. Casa Ischel was the most perfect home away from home. It's larger than the pictures show, and decorated with so much local art, which we appreciated. Armando was so friendly and helpful. When we asked him for recommendations on getting a golf cart, he made a phone call and there was a cart downstairs for us 15 minutes later. I also love the location of Casa Ixchel. It's a few miles from San Pedro, but it's a nice drive in the cart or a nice bike ride. That also means that it's nice and quiet. There's a market nearby (Marina's), as well as a beer/liquor store just up the road. The palapa was perfect for sunbathing and swimming off of. We saw a lot of really colorful fish right under the pier, as well as an eel and a lobster. We snorkeled Hol Chan and Shark/Ray Alley, which was incredibly beautiful, and a must-see. While you're in town, you have to eat at Waraguma's and Elvi's Kitchen. Waraguma's is a tiny restaurant with delicious and cheap Latin food, and Elvi's has a delicious Mayan buffet on Friday nights with fresh fish, tamales, tacos, etc. Before we left Belize, we were already thinking about when we could return. Thank you so much for the most memorable vacation I have taken; it was truly perfect!

It will call you back...
Tasteful elegance and homey comfort...is it possible for an accommodation to combine these elements into an atmosphere that offers both? Visiting Tranquility Beach Club #5 has convinced us that such is indeed the case! At first it was a mystery how owners Brenda & Bruce managed to pull this off. But then we realized that by sharing Casa Ixchel they are actually opening their home and their hearts...hearts filled with a love and appreciation for all things Belizean...to their guests. They seem to have gathered bits of Belize...from its history, art, customs, people, natural beauty...and condensed them into a microcosm that captures and reflects the very spirit of this charming country! From the unforced loveliness of its aquamarine waters, lush foliage, and playful animal life...lizards, birds, bright fishes...to the warmth & friendliness of its native people and the mysterious, magical thread of Mayan culture running from ancient past to present...a visitor to Belize/Ambergris Caye/Casa Ixchel will find all expressed both within and without. Indeed, it is difficult to describe the impression this spirit leaves with you...but it is certainly one that calls you back! It is much easier to describe activities, food, and people. There is so much to do and experience, a long stay or (as in our case) multiple trips are needed. We have enjoyed sea excursions...used Suya Tours for fishing (guide Gavino hooked us up with a nice catch, including a big Spanish mackerel, barracudas, and jacks) and a mainland trip to zipline and cave-tube...great fun! But perhaps our most memorable at-sea experiences have been with "Captain James" and "Tour Guide George"...fishing, snorkeling, a trip through "the Cut"...these laid-back but very knowledgeable young men provided pure fun (and some tasty lobsters!) A fresh-caught, home cooked seafood dinner is hard to beat, but there are plenty of other options...lots of good restaurants...when you've played hard and are too tired to cook. We found El Divino's ceviche & chips and Robin's grilled chicken dinners are great to take out or eat in. Fruit & fresh-squeezed juice from Maria's market and baked goodies (yummy cinnamon rolls) from Ken "The Baker" are perfect supplements to at-home meals. Some final (practical) words about Casa Ixchel: As the owners' second home, it offers convenience and ambiance rare in rental properties. And caretaker Armando is a gem...a kind and accommodating man who keeps the grounds & pool immaculate!

Paradise!
Oh, my goodness....where do I start? This was our family's first trip to Belize and it won't be our last! I must confess, I drive myself and my family crazy when planning a trip, researching and trying to find just the right place to stay since I'm sort of particular. Well, I needn't have worried. Casa Ixchel was absolutely perfect! The condo is just beautiful, the view from the balcony where we had our morning meals was breathtaking, the kitchen perfectly stocked with a blender for pina coladas (what else do you need?) and the master bath...we could have sublet it to a family of four! Enormous! We snorkeled right off the pier in front of the condo and saw lots of conch, an eel, barracuda, and the coolest thing ever - a starfish! Armando, the on-sight caregiver, is the greatest! He is so nice and helpful and keeps the grounds immaculate. One morning I commented to him that whatever his wife was cooking for lunch smelled delicious. Next thing you know, here he comes to the pool, where we were lounging, with fresh corn tortillas and a chicken stew dish that was delicious! Brenda, the owner, and Mary, of Caye Management, were so prompt, patient, and helpful with my many questions before we arrived. Brenda had many suggestions for shopping and restaurants which was very helpful. I think we tried most all of them! The food in Belize is wonderful and fortunately, it was lobster season, so we lucked out there! We loved Robin's Kitchen for jerk chicken and Wild Mangos for smoothies and the biggest burritos I've ever seen! We enjoyed visiting with owners, Tom, from the Black Orchid just around the corner, and Mark and Leanne, from the Lone Star Grill, right across the street - both great places to eat. If you're there on a Thursday, you must go to the chicken drop. That's an experience! My husband and son made several dive trips they booked with Suya. They were great and the diving was superb. They saw sharks, rays, and lobster. We can't wait to go back to Belize and Casa Ixchel again and stay longer next time. Thank you, Bruce and Brenda, for the sweet welcome goodie bag and note and for sharing your beautiful home with us. Everything was absolutely perfect! Until next time......I fell in love with San Pedro, warm wind carried on the sea....

Amazing Month at Casa Ixchel
A friend and I spent the month of February, 2017 at Casa Ixchel. Everything about Casa Ixchel is wonderful. It is spacious, well appointed, and located in a very quiet section of Ambergris Caye. It is a bonus that the Lone Star Grill is located just steps from the condo. A short walk south along the shore there is a small pool-side eatery associated with a condo complex. A bit further south and you'll run into a fabulous beach-side "zoo" with animals made from natural and found objects. Worth the short walk. Apparently you can walk north almost to the town of San Pedro (we didn't) and there are restaurants along the way. We can honestly say we enjoyed the roadside bar-b-que or stewed chicken, rice/beans and slaw at roadside eateries such as Robins or Delicias as much as restaurant fare. Casa Ixchel had everything we needed. We would have given Casa Ixchel 5 stars except for a 2 week period where we had water pressure problems and sometimes had only a trickle of water. Showering was difficult. We heard it was an island-wide problem, but our complex seemed to be hit especially hard. Check with the owners to see if the problem is resolved. To take advantage of the many things to do on Ambergris Caye, we recommend renting a golf cart. We especially liked going to the hermit crab races at Crazy Canucks and to secret beach. The Sunday corn-hole tournament at the Truck Stop (north of the bridge) also was fun. We rented a cart for the month and were able to negotiate a price that was half of that originally quoted. We recommend Cholo's even though the golf carts are not as high end as others. The deck in front of Casa Ixchel took a hit in the August, 2016 hurricane and about a fourth of the dock and the palapa were destroyed. Nevertheless, we snorkeled off the end of the dock - there are steps leading into the water - and had the pleasure of seeing yellow stingrays, which are relatively rare. We snorkeled at Caye Caulker with Hicaco Tours (highly reccomended), and especially liked the sites of south channel, coral gardens, and shark/ray village. They also took us to see a tarpon nursery and seahorses. Our favorite snorkeling on Ambergris was with Chuck and Robbie to Mexico Rocks where we saw turtles, eels, sharks, and lots of fish. Regardless of the water pressure problem, we highly recommend Casa Ixchel and thank Armando, Angela and the wonderful people of Belize for a great vacation.

Quiet and Comfortable
Good location, nice quiet pool and beach. Older property that could use a few updates like new mattresses and oven but was otherwise comfortable and servicable for the price. For 1 week stay had maid service twice and included laundry. We had plumbing issue and it was resolved within hours. Management was very responsive. We would stay here again.
