Ryokans in Hokkaido Prefecture

"A great place to rest and recharge. It almost feels like you were in a Spirited Away movie. One thing I noted which I hope will be addressed, there is a strong sulfuric smell at level 8 (other levels were okay smell wise), it also does not smell like Sulfur when you open the windows, so the smell is not from outside. Our first night there, I feel like suffocating. Succeeding nights were okay, so unsure what that is."

"Very big hotel with open calm spaces to relax and enjoy music and a buffet of coffee tea and small snacks - felt like I could really unwind. Just a small note that English is not a language the staff speaks, so need to brush up on a little Japanese or rely on those Google translators ! But all are eager to please, and it’s a pleasure to experience the politeness and customer care of their culture. Their dinners are very authentic and delicious. Onsens are wonderful with very clean atmosphere."

"This is a beautiful hotel with great views of the river and countryside. It is quiet and the rooms are very nice. I used the private baths with no waiting. The bar is a great whisky and wine bar. Complimentary ramen was very nice and filling. Other snacks are also given free. Staff were so friendly, and managed around my language barrier with ease and friendliness."

"Our family stayed over for a night at the hotel to visit Daisetsuzan. Hotel is very close to the cable car in small town of Sounkyo. We were there at off-season so it was quiet. Hotel is bit old but its a nice experience to stay in traditional Japanese accommodation. Rooms and tatami mattress were fine and fits in 4 people (albeit bit tight). Onsen was a good experience to have thats built in the hotel that we all enjoyed. Other facilities appears old and breakfast was average. The town was...

"We had stayed here about 5 years ago. Best thing is the small number of rooms so there are no crowds. Great location close to Jigokudani and shopping/dining street. Somewhat older property but kept in nice condition. Loved the private open-air onsen in our room overlooking a stream. Excellent service. "
