"Frankly the building didn’t look that spiffy from the outside, but was very nice inside. Everything we needed. Loved that it was off grid with solar and rainwater, without feeling like we were skimping at all. Would highly recommend! We also felt it was very reasonably priced. "

"This is the real Hawaii! The property is located in a relatively remote area about 30 minutes south of Pahoa. Beautiful setting in the middle of a forest not too far from the beach. Isaac Hale Park is within walking distance and although the beach isn’t very safe for swimming there is a pond there that you can swim in. The accommodations are primitive and like camping but Mango Cabin was very spacious and the beds were VERY comfy. It is off-grid but there is electricity to the cabins. The cabins...

"A spectacular one bedroom cabin that had a full kitchen sumptuous breakfast offerings in the refrigerator, think eggs, butter, milk, fruit, bread, cereal…. There was a gas fireplace/heater and electric blankets to keep one cozy on cool nights, dvds and player, books, art supplies, restaurant recommendations. On ad one. The hosts had everything prepped and we enjoyed every minute!"

" This house was great for our family trip to Hilo. We had 2 adults and 2 kids, one kid slept on a pull-out couch in the living room and was very comfortable. The house was very nice and clean. The hosts were communicative and answered any questions we had promptly. The house is a little outside Hilo, but it was an easy drive and is located in a nice, quiet neighborhood. We would highly recommend this house for a family looking for a nice, comfortable, safe place to stay in the Hilo area."

"The house is comfortable with ample rooms. The bathrooms are unique. Location was perfect, near the beach, not far from great farmers markets. Nearby Sea View has a lot of local entertainment. We enjoyed the evening frogs and morning roosters. The owners dog is very sweet."

"Beautiful house from the mid-1930’s filled with wonderful artifacts and Hawaiiana. Nice kitchen area for in home cooking - pots pans rice cooker etc- Comfynooks for relaxing- great wrap around deck with lounge chairs and a dining table! The garden is lush and creative. There are many cocqui frogs at night so if that bothers you, there is even ears plugs! Our only negative was that due to a plumbing issue my husband could not soak in the tub (for his degenerative disk) altho the shower worked...

"The location, the ambiance and peacefulness exceeded my expectations a hundred fold! But what truly made the stay so fantastic was how my wife and I were treated like ohana! There was a sadness to leaving because Rochelle (Celle) became our extended family! We plan on strengthening the wonderful way we were treated! Beautiful memories were made! Mahalo nui loa!"

"The experience of staying at Kalani Oceanside Retreat was very relaxing and beautiful. We enjoyed the yoga class we signed up for very much. The people we encountered, both guests and staff, were great to talk with. The cottage we stayed at had lots of room and we had a fabulous view of the ocean and grounds around us."

"This property is as described. The hosts and her husband were helpful when we checked in making sure we were able to enter (even though we already had been given a code). Melanie was patient with my many questions prior to arrival. The property is kind of off the beat and path, but only about 45 minutes to an hour from Volcano National Park and was a good spot to explore Hilo and Rainbow Falls and Apoka Falls and the Tropical Botanical Gardens. It isn't a fancy place, if that's what you are...

"We loved loved this property. It was clean, loved the fact they offered house slippers as well as outside slippers. We spent more time out on our full beautiful balcony more than in room. Beautiful landscaping. You can tell they take pride in the rental home. It’s was quiet and laid back for my husband and I. Maid service was awesome. We stayed on that side of island cuz it was my local, and just drove to tourist areas when we wanted to do stuff. Zoo was free and gorgeous, rainbow falls was free and beautiful. Checked out many beaches. Overall everything was wonderful. Even tried to eat mostly authentic local foods. Island breeze luau was a rip off don’t recommend. But it’s a must stay. Thank you so much for the wonderful experience. Mr.& Ms. Hunt"

Not close to Volcanoes

"The staff was so friendly. There were lots of animals: peacocks, cats, frogs, geese. We loved it! We booked it to be closer to Volcanoes National Park, without realizing there was no road that cuts across. We had to go amidst to Hilo in order to go back down to the Volcanoes, so it wasn't the most convenient, but we loved the vibe!"

"Arnott's Lodge is a quiet, cozy home away from home. The staff were so friendly. We stayed in a studio. Parking was right outside your private entrance so very easy to unload luggage. The studio had air conditioning, a large kitchen island, a 2 burner stovetop, mini fridge, toaster, microwave and utensils. It was so nice to be able to cook our own meals. The private bathroom had a large shower. The bed was our favorite part. Firm but oh so comfortable after a long day of exploring. The beach is a 3 minute walk down to the end of the road. It's a tiny beach entrance and was never crowded. This lodge is extremely close to the Hilo airport and it can be very loud when planes are landing so be aware if you are a light sleeper. We will definitely be staying here again when in Hilo."
