It is the second-largest city in the country after Casablanca, with a population of approximately 1 million. This city is the former capital and one of the country’s four imperial cities. Fez comprises three distinct parts: Fez el Bali, which is the oldest part, is surrounded by a big wall, where there are more than 9000 narrow streets and allies. Fez-Jdid, or the new Fes, is home to the Mellah, the Jewish quarter, and the Ville Nouvelle, the newest section of Fez created during the French occupation. Fez el Bali is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its medina is the largest in the world. Among its narrow streets and allies is the oldest university in the world: the University of Al-Karaouine, founded in AD 859. This university is still operating nowadays.
Royal Palace of Fez

Its original foundation dates back to the foundation of Fes el-Jdid (New Fez), the royal citadel of the Marinid dynasty, in 1276 CE. Most of the palace today dates from the Alaouite era (17th-20th centuries). The vast grounds are home to multiple private structures, patios, and gardens, but historically also included administrative offices and government tribunals. Today, the most publicly visible parts of the palace are its main entrances at the Old Mechouar (to the northeast) and the highly ornate 20th-century gates at Place des Alaouites, near the Mellah (to the southwest). enjoy the the beautiful Moroccan architecture and have pictures with the palace and garden.

The tanneries are packed with the round stone vessels filled with dye or white liquids for softening the hides. The leather goods produced in the tanneries are exported around the world. you can take photos for the people who working there in pool cleaning the leather.
