Enjoy the pleasant journey through rolling landscapes of vine-clad and olive grove hills topped with castles and abbeys to Chianti. Along the way you may wish to stop at either the American War Memorial or a terracotta workshop to see great craftsmen at work as they mould huge pieces of clay into grand and imposing pots! Our next stop will be a renowned Chianti producer for a cellar tour and wine-tasting before travelling on to the beautiful setting of Badia a Passignano surrounded by Antinori vineyards and overlooked by its Benedictine Abbey. This is a great location to relax and enjoy a sumptuous Tuscan lunch with a view at a little osteria. Our afternoon stop is the World Heritage site of San Gimignano. As symbols of wealth and power, there were once an incredible 72 towers rising above the rooftops. There are fewer nowadays, but the 14 remaining are still impressive in the misty distance, forming an unforgettable skyline in the heart of an Etruscan landscape. The town is renowned for its white Vernaccia wine as well as saffron which was cultivated here in the Middle Ages. Certainly not to miss is a visit to the Gelateria di Piazza, where Sergio Dondoli creates award-winning gelato with flavours including Vernaccia wine sorbet! You will tour in comfort and style with a professional English speaking driver in a top of the range Mercedes minivan or saloon. As your tour is private it is also customised especially for you so if there's anything in particular that you would like to see or do, just let us know and we'll do our best to incorporate this into your day!
