Cross the border into Belgium to explore the picture-perfect Gothic city of Bruges. The unique cobblestone streets and beautiful canals have given it the nickname “Venice of the North.” It's a fascinating blend of medieval architecture and modern European culture.

Leaving Paris behind for the day, head through northern France, and cross the border into Belgium. First enjoy a guided walk through the historic centre, passing highlights including the Gothic City Hall, the ornate Renaissance architecture of the Place du Bourg, and the 12th-century Basilica of the Holy Blood.

Once you've oriented yourself to the city, enjoy plenty of free time for lunch; perhaps this is a good opportunity to sample the local speciality, moules-frites (mussels and French fries), or sample the extensive selection of Belgian beers.

In the afternoon, take the opportunity to peruse the boutiques that make up the medieval city centre. For the sweet-toothed visitors, it's hard to resist sampling the world-famous Belgian chocolate before boarding your comfortable coach back to Paris.
