Elegant country retreat near Spring Green w expansive views of Driftless Region

The Glass House of Spring Green is an architectural gem set along a ridge of native prairie grasses and oak woods, with an exceptional view of the Driftless Area hills. Built in 1984, it was enrolled in the Driftless Area Land Conservancy, assuring that its native landscape will be maintained in perpetuity. Its parklike setting assures a private, peaceful retreat.

Prairie plants and native trees dominate the 24 acres near the house and mowed paths give access for birding, botanizing, picnicking, snowshoeing and skiing. A large deck with ample seating faces the distant hills and vivid sunsets. Inside an extensive library offers reading for all tastes, from history and nature to fiction and photography.

A single story, 2,300 sq ft home, the 3 bedroom and 2 baths stretch along a hallway leading from the central space. A glass wall brings the outside in to the central space. The 3 bedrooms include 1 king, 1 queen and 1 twin bed set up, all with easy access to one of the 2 bathrooms. The kitchen is fully equipped to please even the best gourmet cook.

Nearby outdoor recreation includes the Wisconsin River and Governor Dodge State Park for paddling, swimming and hiking. American Players Theatre, Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin, the Spring Green Art Fair and many music venues are within a 15 minute drive. The House on the Rock is less than a mile away and two golf courses are close by.

The easy-access layout includes ample parking and a large, walk-in tiled shower in the main bathroom. WiFi and Satellite TV service is reliable. The geothermal heating and cooling system is both comfortable and environmentally friendly year-round.

This gorgeous home was the perfect place to get away for the weekend. Pristine home with modern amenities but also access to the peace of nature. Sunsets bloomed from the expansive views. Walking trails gave us room to explore. Would definitely visit again.

Lovely Weekend at the Glass House!
Long time women friends enjoyed our weekend at the Glass House. The driftless area of WI is beautiful. We had great sunny fall weather. It only rained at night. We chose to stay at the house for dinner both Friday and Saturday nights and sat on the deck and took in the gorgeous view, yakked, watched a movie, lounged. Very comfortable, beautiful home. I’d love to return in the winter!

We booked in anticipation of seeing a couple of APT productions. The weekend was uncomfortably hot for outdoor theater. Fortunately, the Glass House was fantastic. Winter weekend retreat
Our family of 4 had an absolutely lovely weekend here. We periodically rent a VRBO in different drivable WI locations and this has been by far our favorite. The house and views are absolutely beautiful. Perfectly clean, anything you could want in the kitchen, excellent communication with the host. She even left out some kids games, books, and stuffed animals for our daughters. Can’t say enough that is good about this place - we hope to come back this summer and catch some American Players Theater shows as well.

A dream spot on the prairie
The home and land are absolutely beautiful and a MUST for prairie and conservation enthusiasts. The host was so lovely and thoughtful and you can really tell how much they care about the property and the experience their guests have there. The bird watching was great and they encourage you to note the species you see which connects you to the place and the other guests who have stayed there as well. It was so fun. We had such a quiet and peaceful stay. This is great for adults looking for a peaceful retreat with family or friends and for families with kiddos since there is always something new to observe and learn. I am looking forward to visiting again, we had such an amazing stay!

Grand views and a wonderful house!
Our stay on the property was amazing. The house was lovely, had tons of natural light and wonderfully decorated. We loved walking the trail and going through the library. We stayed in mid-May & the weather was moody, thankfully there were fun puzzles and games to occupy those rainy portions of the day. There was plenty of space available for storing luggage. The mattress in the master bedroom was firmer that what we are used to but wasn't uncomfortable. The experience overall is quite memorable, from the sunrises to the sunsets.

A beautiful and serene house and grounds.
We stayed June 28-80, 2024. Four adults all fit very comfortably in this spacious home. It is really stunning architecturally as well as the grounds and gardens. When at the house, we spent a lot of time on the deck looking into the valley and watching the many varieties of birds. The wildflowers and prairie were also really lovely. The house is appointed better than every short term rentals I have stayed in including kitchen items as well as entertainment (games, books, etc.) The internet worked very well. The home is very secluded but only 15 minutes from theater and 10 to Dodgeville making trips quite easy. We highly recommend and would definitely stay again.

Great House in Open, Natural Setting
My family and I stayed here over a long weekend so we can visit some local attractions, including Cave of the Mounds. The house was great - 3 bedrooms, including a "kid's room" with 2 twin beds. It was a clean, long ranch house with one entire wall consisting of windows looking out to the back, which was all nature. A short walk out the back leads to a cliff with beautiful views of the neighboring hills and valleys. We saw turkeys each morning. The host, Barbara, was very easy to communicate with and she even mailed me an item I left at the house. All in all, great place in a beautiful country setting in the driftless region - we will come back.

Awesome weekend for a reunion with friends
Spring Green was a great halfway point for meeting up with friends. Three couples shared this beautiful house for a low key weekend. This unique property had everything we were looking for. Lovely, quiet house and acreage
We ( three friends) really enjoyed our stay here. The house is comfortable and has everything we needed. The beds are comfortable and the house is spacious. We loved the many windows and the beautiful views. Drinking coffee on the deck in the morning and watching and listening to the plentiful birds was a treat. The house is convenient to Talesien and other Frank Lloyd Wright attractions. I highly recommend this place to stay!
