Learn about the siege led by Joan of Arc, visit the stunning cathedral and explore the picturesque landscape of Loiret.

Orléans is a pretty city with cobblestone streets and plazas and the Loire River passing through. Cycle along the river and enjoy the many medieval sights around the city center.

Visit the St. Croix Cathedral, with a Gothic design resembling Paris’ Notre Dame. It dates back to the 13th century, with major renovation in the 17th century after being damaged. Marvel at the stained-glass windows telling the story of Joan of Arc, a French heroine who led the French to victory against the English during the Hundred Years’ War. Eventually, she was captured and burned at the stake.

In the Maison de Jeanne d’Arc, see a reconstruction of the small house where the teenage heroine stayed before leading the siege. Inspect the model village representing the town’s 15th-century layout. Watch a short movie about Joan of Arc.

Celebrate the week-long Joan of Arc Festival in May. Local residents and visitors dress up in traditional clothing. Take part in the medieval customs, such as old culinary treats.

Explore the magnificent gardens of Floral Park and sit down for a picnic with your family. Capture photos of statues, fountains and children’s play areas. Marvel at the range of exotic plants and see a tributary of the Loire River.

Look at the intriguing art displayed at the Fine Arts Museum. Make your way to the Centre Charles Péguy to learn about one of France’s most acclaimed poets.

Orléans is located in the Loiret Department, 80 miles (130 kilometers) south of Paris, the location of the nearest international airport. Drive between the two cities in less than 2 hours. Cycle around the attractive Loire Valley and stay at one of the many châteaus. Other nearby towns include Le Mans, Montargis, Versailles and Tours.

Come to learn about Joan of Arc and fall in love with the gorgeous town of Orléans, with its pleasant gardens and surrounding countryside.
