Our stay at this property was a complete nightmare. Upon arrival, we were given a digital code to enter, but the keypad didn’t work—either it had no batteries or was broken. When I called the host, she was completely unaware that guests were arriving that day. She eventually gave us another code for a non-digital lockbox, which had a physical key. Oddly enough, when we finally got inside, there was a welcome sign with my name on it—so clearly, they did know we were coming.
We rented the entire property, yet the key set provided did not include a key for the downstairs loft. We didn’t think much of it until the second day, when we were resting in our room and suddenly heard someone trying to open our door. Alarmed, we called our friends who were staying on the top floor, and they rushed down, scared as well. Later that evening, as we returned from town, we noticed a taxi dropping someone off at the property. When we got closer, we saw that the lights in the loft—again, the one we did not have a key for—were now on, and we could hear someone inside.
At this point, we called the owner, terrified. She insisted that no one else was there and that we had rented the entire place. We calmly explained that there was definitely someone inside the loft. She told us she would come check herself, but we were too uncomfortable to stay any longer. We ended up booking another place for the night and leaving early, even though we had already paid for the final night.
