With a nod to the history of the cottage and its previous owner, The Carters Cottage dates back to around 1850. Originally a home for a family of 12, it is now extremely comfortable for 6! Its residents were typical of local families, and made their living transporting gunpowder from the ‘Old Sedgwick’ gunpowder works by the River Kent. With Sedgwick House built by the owners and sitting opposite the cottage, the history of the village and area is evident in its surroundings.
In an ideal spot for touring the area you are just a short drive from Bowness and Windermere. South Lakeland and the Kent Estuary offer the contrast of landscape from Morecambe Bay to the Lakeland hills. Walkers will enjoy the picturesque surrounding areas, with walks along the canal – northbound to the historic market town of Kendal or south through the Hincaster Tunnel to Crooklands.
The Carters Cottage is well placed to allow for easy pottering about the area. Local villages offer friendly pubs, cafés, garden centres and visitor attractions. After a long day’s exploring, return to the comfort of the cottage and the cosy multi-fuel burner.

There are open, steep, spiral or narrow stairs at the property.

The cottage was cosy and comfortable, the kitchen was tiny but workable, lovely dinning room, beds very comfy. The stairs were fairly steep but managable and you were pre-warned of this. I think a curtain is needed for the front door as it was quite draughty sitting on the sofa in the evenings. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

Got off to a poor start because the key wasn't in the keysafe.

Got off to a poor start because the key wasn't in the keysafe. We arrived about 8pm (Friday 18 October) and phoned the emergency number which went to voicemail (but was supposed to be manned until 9pm). Luckily a helpful neighbour phoned the owner who was able to contact the cleaner who brought a key round. We then received a call from someone in the Cumbrian Cottages office, who said he could bring the key in about 40 minutes, but by then the cleaner was already on her way. These things happen, but if we had arrived after 9pm and not found the neighbour so helpful we would have been stuck. Suggest cleaners be reminded to check the previous guest has left the key in the right place. Other than that the cottage is lovely and comfortable.

Family break in Sedgwick

Loved the cottage and the village, so relaxing. Beautifully furnished/decorated. Neighbours lovely. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Would highly recommend. *We needed to buy soap, toilet rolls, kitchen roll, tin foil and batteries for both bedroom clocks. Small light shade in bathroom missing. Bathroom lights kept flickering on/off. One bulb had gone on landing (found in bathroom cupboard and changed it). Beds were too hard for us, recommend a mattress topper??? Should have had a deep clean prior to our arrival - cobwebs on walls. Bit of a smell in main bathroom. Note* These are not complaints, purely comments and suggestions to make it "perfect".

Lovely house with cosy coal burning stove.

Lovely house with cosy coal burning stove. Nice big dining room table for 6 people. Small kitchen but quite well equipped. Double bedrooms both good sized, upstairs twin room ok for older children (as per photos). We were a family of 6 and had a lovely long weekend. (Only minor irritation was not even the basics of salt, pepper, oil, sugar etc in the store cupboard, containers all empty and liquid soap in bathroom almost empty and none in the shower room).

Our stay at Carters Cottage in August was a lovely relaxing break in beautiful scenery and a comfort

Our stay at Carters Cottage in August was a lovely relaxing break in beautiful scenery and a comfortable cottage. The cottage was family and dog friendly and we all enjoyed the stay. The children loved the attic bedroom and their own bathroom. Parking was a times a little difficult and we had not realised the back yard was not enclosed so could not let the dog out off-leash. We really enjoyed the proximity of the aquaduct walk and the games provided in the games cupboard. Sky TV was a major bonus for the rainy days. The children even enjoyed the local play area.
