Potholes with Minimal Accommodation
We wished we'd really examined Google Street View along the neighborhood: getting to the house means a solid mile of potholes on a dirt road. Driving with my foot off the gas and 1/4 of the time on the break, for close to ten minutes, we barely exceeded 5 mph.. Street View from Agate Beach reveals that Elm is paved, although a bit rough. Poplar and Locust will give you an idea of how good the roads looked a couple of years ago - they're much worse now. This is not a place where you can quickly dash to the store for sugar or whatever; the local markets closed at 6pm, and unless you off-road, you won't want to make the drive in the dark. If you're familiar with Bolinas, you may know this - we were not.The apartment was fine for what it was - it has an upscale camping vibe. Furniture is ok, bed as well. There are, however, few curtains. While there is a wood stove with a firewood supply in the carport, we found neither kindling nor matches nor a lighter. If you are a reader, there are hundreds of books, but the lighting leaves a lot to be desired, and it is mostly very dim, with low wattage bulbs. Additionally, if you like a cozy vibe, there are no throw blankets, nor extra blankets, towels, or linens of any kind at at all. We had one set with two face towels, two hand towels and two body towels. While the bed linens were pristine, the towels had soured in the washer and been dried, and as a result reeked of mildew. We are frequent VRBO users and are accustomed to the basic
