Whitewater Ski Resort is a paradise for lovers of outdoor adventures, snow-based sports and spectacular mountain scenery. The resort is famous for its consistent snowfall and receives around 40 feet (12 meters) of snowfall per year.
This excellent ski resort boasts 1184 acres (479 hectares) of skiable area, which includes both alpine and Nordic terrain. The alpine terrain has 81 ski runs, accessible via three lifts, and an adrenalin-inducing 2,044-feet (623-meter) vertical drop. The runs are suitable for all levels of skier, although predominately geared toward intermediate and advanced levels. The Nordic terrain consists of around 9 miles (15 kilometers) of cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snow-biking trails.
First-time skiers have the option to take private or group skiing and snowboarding lessons with qualified instructors. Whether skiing, taking lessons or on a guided tour, take time to admire the glorious natural surroundings of rolling mountains, jagged peaks and thick pine forests.
Away from the trails the resort’s coffee bar, café and pub proudly support local businesses. Keep warm with a coffee brewed with beans roasted locally by Oso Negro or sip on craft beers brewed at the Nelson Brewing Company. There’s also a rental shop, where you can rent equipment such as backcountry gear, skis, snowboards and helmets.
Whitewater Ski Resort is about a 20-minute drive from downtown Nelson. Free parking is available at the entrance to the resort. A daily shuttle bus service connects the resort with various locations around Nelson. There is also a daily shuttle service between the resort and Spokane International Airport, located a 3-hour drive away in the U.S. state of Washington.
The resort is open daily, from December to April. There’s no accommodation at the resort. You can purchase ski passes and arrange activities at the resort’s office in downtown Nelson.
