Dive into the life and career of the 16th president at theAbraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. This state-of-the-art institution is one of the country’s most visited presidential libraries. It includes fascinating exhibits focusing on the American Civil War.

Before he became president, Lincoln earned his nickname of "Honest Abe" while working as a lawyer. Tour his offices at theLincoln-Herndon Law Office. Just a few steps away is theOld State Capitol, whereLincoln served in the Illinois House of Representatives and addressed the issue of slavery in his famous "House Divided" speech.

The surrounding four blocks have been preserved to appear as they did when Lincoln lived there. Lincoln's final resting place is inOak Ridge Cemetery where there are also Vietnam War, Korean War and World War II memorials.

On the cultural side, take advantage of Springfield's arts community.
