Peaceful Getaway
Bears Den was just what my friends and I were looking for in a peaceful getaway. The house was comfortable and provided all the amenities. We also liked being close to some good hiking trails; we hiked to Strickler Knob one day (highly recommended!). We really enjoyed our time at the cabin.

Beautiful trip to Shenandoah National Park with great friends!
The cabin was absolutely beautiful, clean and full of activities! My friends and I came here from NY the weekend to disconnect and do some hiking in the park. The owner of the property was very quick to respond with questions and suggestions for our stay. I can definitely say if I ever come back to do some more hiking, I will make sure the cabin is available again before I pick dates! 10/10

Awesome Family Getaway!
Our family had a wonderful stay this October. The property was clean, and our host was terrific and quick to communicate. We loved having the opportunity to grill, stargaze in the evening, and sit around the fire pit. Thank you for a fantastic experience!

Family Fun Weekend
The property was just as described! Comfy and roomy, a great place for our family get away. The bedrooms with a queen bed in each were perfect for the five couples in our group. The kitchen was well-appointed with everything we needed for cooking meals. We really enjoyed the campfire area too and spent a couple evenings there. Overall a great place!!

Relaxing time in the mountains
We enjoyed our stay at Bears Den Cabin. It was very comfortable and well furnished-- so nice not to have to bring much along with us. We are an outdoorsy family so enjoyed the proximity to hiking, waterfalls, mountain swimming holes and the river for kayaking/tubing. We also enjoyed being a short drive to Harrisonburg (JMU), New Market, Luray Caverns, and Monticello (Charlottesville). We enjoyed dinners out in local restaurants and ice cream/mini-golf/go-karting afterwards before heading home to the cabin to rest/recharge for another day.

Family time
The house was neat and clean. There was plenty of room for everyone to move around and feel comfortable. The bedrooms were very nice. The only issue was the dirt road leading to the house. It’s not for the faint of heart. LOL Our visit was enjoyable. Thank you to our host and cleaning staff.

Mountain getaway
This large cabin is located in a nice mountain location well in the woods. Views from the back were really beautiful. Great game room and hot tub. The kitchen is large and we’ll equipped. Owner was very quick to respond when a bad storm resulted in a power outage and the next day when the dish based internet stopped working. Fairly close drive to Luray and SNP entrances.

Family vacation
Beautiful surroundings, nice rooms, hot tub and games a plus. However it lacked basic amenities such as dishwasher detergent, kitchen soap, bathroom soap, at least 1 extra trash bag. There were not enough towels for all of us. The dishwasher did not work.

Relaxed Bachelorette Weekend With Friends
We had a wonderful stay at Bears Den for a low key bachelorette weekend. The cabin is spacious yet cozy and we loved the large deck, firepit, and hot tub. There was no toilet paper, paper towels, or trash bags so plan on bringing those. Also the coffee maker barely works, it took about an hour to brew 6 cups of coffee. Overall it was a lovely place to stay and would definitely go back!

Amazing house!
The house is extremely well taken care of and owner very responsive. Information provided by the owner was very helpful both before we arrived but also information left in the house. We loved the house, the river and enjoying outdoor things to do in the area. We had a slight issue with hearing the neighbor’s dog barking (at hours not appreciated) but owner was responsive. Would absolutely stay here again with my family. The attention to detail and level of organization was much appreciated and let us know we were in good hands!

Relaxing stay in beautiful location
The cabin is located in a isolated location, deep into the woods of Shenandoah Gap. Beautiful views of the mountains from the back porch (an excellent way to start the day with coffee), surrounded by forested area filled with an array of plants, birds, deer, squirrels, and other animals. Very relaxing and peaceful place to unwind. The roads in the neighborhood provide a great hike with plenty of hills. Took advantage of some fishing in the river. Fantastic views from standing in the river! Absolutely wonderful. Highly recommend!

Plenty of Room to Spread Out
Our family of 9 gathered here for a bday getaway. It was a good location with pretty views. The main road runs along the river and is very scenic. The cabin was very roomy with plenty of space to spread out. The bedrooms were ample size, too. Our favorite space was the common area upstairs as the kitchen was spacious and open to the living area which made hanging out easy. We visited Elkton while here and would recommend that as a place to go for future guests. Cute town with shops, brewery, and restaurants. I echo some of the other past guests, there is some maintenance that needs to be done in and out of the home but the owner has been messaged about it and states she's on it.

New year/birthday weekend
My family and I had a blast at The Bears Den Cabin! The place was clean, affordable & had everything you would ever need for a weekend away. The views were amazing and there were plenty of things to do around the cabin (play pool, darts, sit by the fire, relax in the hot tub, soak up the views on the back deck). We didn't have the best weather but that didn't stop us from having a good time. The only issue we had was the hot water (or lack of). Quick showers were a necessity or you would be caught in the cold. All around we had a great weekend and would do it all over again in a heartbeat!

Some suggestions.
1- more reliable tv and internet 2- rear yard needs sprucing. Mowing? 3- propane tanks ( 3) were empty 4- instructions on the fridge for the dump says it is closed on Wednesday. It is open.

Lovely Mountain Retreat
Just returned home having spent a lovely month at Bear's Den. The property surpassed its moniker "barely rustic." It was in excellent shape and thoroughly cleaned before our arrival. We spent many morning, afternoon, and evening hours relaxing on the spacious deck overlooking the woods and with a view to the Massanutten range. Ghada, the owner, was very responsive and the cabin is well looked after by her local caretaker, Mr. Berry. I enjoyed meeting him and his grandson when they delivered wood for us at the beginning of our visit; he was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Great location with easy access to grocery stores (Food Lion), a Walgreen's, a Virginia ABC, and a fantastic microbrewery (Elkton Brewing). Great location for access to Shenandoah National Park: 30-35 minute drive to both the Thornton Gap Entrance Station (to the north) and the Swift Run Gap Entrance Station (to the south). My family and friends thoroughly enjoyed this idyllic mountain retreat and we'll certainly be returning.

Awesome Christmas week!
The cabin in person is so much nicer than the pictures show online. We spent the week with our adult children and spouses cooking, playing games, hanging out watching football, hiking through the woods and even visited a ski resort about 30 minutes away for a day of skiing and snowboarding . The beds were as comfortable as what we would get for ourselves for our own homes. The kitchen was fully stocked and we needed nothing else for cooking which we did every day. The check in process was simple and the cabin was very clean when we arrived. We had plenty of room to enjoy each others company or go sneak away for a quick nap. Ghada was an absolute joy to work with through the entire rental process and during the stay as well if anything was needed. Really could not have asked for a better week and a nicer place to hang out with our family!! I would highly recommend this place as it looks like it has a ton to offer year round.

Great Cabin
The cabin is gorgeous! Great location in the mountains. It’s a long up hill road that leads to the cabin that had us on the edge of our seats! My only complaints… for the price we paid I feel the BBQ grill really needs to be replaced, the refrigerator has broken or missing shelves, the ice maker didn’t work, no seating around fire pit, back deck needs to be repainted, back deck needs nails to be flattened and BASEMENT WAS VERY COLD!!!! Artic cold! It was very uncomfortable…. We didn’t hang out as much as we would have liked and that’s where all the cool activities were…. Like pool table, foosball video games and more.
