Leave behind your worries with a long-overdue getaway to California's stunning Sonoma Coast. This Sea Ranch home provides the perfect way to appreciate the pristine natural beauty of the area, with ocean views from every room, access to one of Sea Ranch’s favorite beaches for nature lovers, a private hot tub, and shared amenities like pools, saunas, and tennis.

Tucked away in the unique community of The Sea Ranch, this classic ocean bluff home has ocean views from every room. It is surrounded by nature, with fields and greenery to the east and Walk On Beach a short stroll away. Nearby rec centers provide structured activities, including swimming in the shared pools, yoga classes, and fun games of tennis and pickleball. With a private hot tub waiting for you, however, it's tempting to just sit back and breathe in the fresh ocean air or take in the awe-inspiring view of the stars (minimal light pollution at Sea Ranch).

Like many Sea Ranch homes, the Blue Heron was designed to integrate the indoor and outdoor environment using rustic wood, stone, multiple decks, window seats, and lots of light. While retaining these classic Sea Ranch features, the Blue Heron is newer than most homes at Sea Ranch, built in 2002 by notable architect Ted Smith. Over the past year, the owners have installed new carpet, refinished kitchen cabinets, and new windows and skylights. In 2023, brand new kitchen appliances were installed.

The Blue Heron has an Electric Vehicle (EV) charger available for guests and the house is powered using solar energy, reflecting the owner's commitment to clean energy.

The house includes modern amenities such as a beautiful new kitchen, passive solar (the house is always a comfortable temperature), spacious rooms with modern furnishings, and high-speed wireless internet standing side-by-side with rich wooden columns and ceiling beams, slate stone floors, and wide windows to the forest and beach views outside. Watercolors throughout the house were done by an award-winning Maine artist.

All the basic appliances and high-quality clad cookware are present and accounted for, along with several options for coffeemaking -espresso, chemex, an automatic coffee maker, and a conical burr coffee grinder (bring fresh whole beans) for coffee lovers - and a Chatsford teapot for tea lovers. There is a full set of spices to liven up your cooking. Gaze at the bushy, gnarled branches dancing in the wind as you prepare a delicious meal, which you can savor with your loved ones at the adjacent indoor table for six - or at the outside table with views and the feel of the ocean breeze. Afterwards, treat yourself to a cup of hot cocoa as you settle in for the evening by the fireplace. Enjoy movie night, using the state-of-the-art entertainment options.

Six guests can stay in this two- bedroom home, making it a good choice for families, intergenerational gatherings, and small groups of friends.

The primary bedroom offers a king-size bed for adults, a large walk-in closet, and an en suite bathroom. The slate-lined shower is built for two with double showerheads. Attached to the primary bedroom is a spacious study with bookcases, a large desk, a single bed, TV, and comfortable chairs. It’s the perfect place for quiet since it is separate from the main living space. Go ahead and catch up on work emails, or read a book, or do a little yoga (the house has yoga mats available) all while looking out over the Pacific Ocean.

From both the primary bedroom and the study there are multiple ways to appreciate the beauty of the area - up close thanks to quick deck access, or from afar through windows with direct ocean views over a protected meadow. In this room, you can pull out a classic children’s book from the bookcase and read to your child or grandchild in an overstuffed chair while you watch the sun paint the horizon pink and orange as it dips beneath the waves.

The second bedroom, located on the other wing of the house, has a queen bed, an en suite bathroom, access to its own porch with a small table and chairs, and a view that rivals the primary bedroom, looking straight out to the ocean. Curl up on the window seat and watch the birds and the surf.

In the living room, there is a queen-sized pull-out couch with extra bedding available. The sleeper sofa includes an inflatable interior so it is dreamily comfortable. The house’s two full bathrooms, along with a shared half-bathroom, make getting ready in the morning a breeze.

The house is single story accessed by two stairs up to an outside porch and another single step up into the house. Inside the Blue Heron there are no elevated thresholds so access from room to room is unrestricted. There is a bathtub in one bedroom and a walk-in shower in the primary bath with a five-inch threshold to enter the shower. The Blue Heron owners have written up an extensive list of suggested activities with pictures and directions for guests. Just as important as the beach is the nearby Bluff Trail, which leads you through the landscape of Sea Ranch architecture as well as the waves below.

The nearby area offers wine tasting at the Annapolis Winery, a mere 12-mile drive away, as well as a handful of shops and galleries in neighboring Gualala. In Sea Ranch, visit Twofish Baking Company for morning pastries and lattes or make a day trip of visiting the village of Mendocino to the north. On spring, summer, and fall Saturdays the Farmers Market in Gualala is not to be missed with fruits, vegetables, flowers and fresh baked goods.

Great Place to Stay
We loved the quiet at the Blue Heron. We walked the trail and beaches, cooked dinners in, and enjoyed the hot tub. Sea Ranch is a beautiful area, large with a diverse environment, from beaches, meadows, and forest. Unbelievably beautiful.

Great location!!
House is in a great location with access to bluff trail and beaches. Only a few minutes drive to lodge or to Gualala. The kitchen had all necessary tool and spices for cooking. Everything was clean and orderly. Only issue we had during stay was with Bose sound not working. Would definitely stay here again.

Fantastic house
Our family had a great stay here and the kids are already begging to come back. The house itself is lovely - bright, comfortable and well-appointed, with views all around. We enjoyed the nearby beach, spotting deer and other wildlife, and exploring up and down the coast. Soaking in the hot tub at the end of the day was the icing on the cake. It’s quite a magical spot!

Pristine beach home
We loved the hot tub, pristine and comfortable house, the views, the sound of the waves, the stars at night, the easy location to the beaches and bluff trail, the well stocked kitchen and the comfy beds. All furniture, including outdoor furniture was nice. It was a very well-maintained and beautiful home.

Truly Five Star Experience
Great location: nice views, 0.1 mile to bluff train which is right above walk-on beach, about 1 mile away from seal rookery, only a few miles from Gualala. True to pictures and description. Clean and very well maintained. When they say fully equipped kitchen they aren't kidding, including a great selection of spices. I never found a set of steak knives, but lacked for nothing else. We had trouble figuring out the TV and sound system even though thorough instructions were provided. We never called for help, so obviously we didn't find it too troubling. We visit Sea Ranch annually, and this is truly one of the best all-around places in which we have stayed.

Awesome stay
This was our second time staying in this house and it was just wonderful! We’ll definitely be back. I agree though that the window shades are just a bit too light, other than that everything was perfect.

First class!
We usually stay in another home just north of Gualala that sits right on the bluff however it was unavailable. This Sea Ranch home was a different experience but in a very pleasant way. A totally different vibe but extremely enjoyable. We especially enjoyed the hiking trails and all the different beaches that were loaded with cool driftwood sculptures. We will be back....only for a longer stay to enjoy the library.

Property lovely, Hot Tub dangerously dirty
We loved the property with the exception of the hot tub. Two of our guests got STAPH infection a few days after leaving the property. We had noticed the hot tub seemed to have very murky water so probably should not have gone in.
