Disliked: Amenities
The entire shared space was used by locals and staff friends. No room for paying guests. We had to hang out outside the common space. Very hard to socialize with fellow travelers.
Sometimes a hostel can be better, not just cheaper
We were delighted, This is a hostel with a minimal management presence and a rotating ,staff of volunteers, but it runs more efficiently and more thoughtfully than many hotels. The guests ranged from couples in their 60's and 70's to families with school-aged children to a majority of singles in their twenties. Everyone was treated with respect and consideration. One block away from a wonderful beach, and conveniently near a grocery and a market, the location couldn't be better. I would certainly recommend the Matilori to my friends and would happily return.
Had booked 3 nigths, but the place was not really Nice. Room was way to warm. Pillow was horrible (only Cotten balls in them). The place only took cash, so Hotels.com discount could not be applied. Had to pay for rent a towel. I slept there one night, but woke up way to early because of noice, and there was no window to the room, only a mosquito net.
Switched to another hotel, but still had to pay for 2 nights even though I was not happy, and the only took cash.. my friend also had a room where the doorknob felt off, so it was not possible to lock the door.
Would have appreciated another night refunded.
