Spacious Cottage With Lovely Views And Garden/woodland, Privately Situated

La Maison d'Amis is a traditional detached stone Perigourdin cottage located within Perigord /Limousin Regional Natural Park. This one bedroom property is spacious and airy with wonderful high ceilings and stone walls. Separated by a courtyard and large barn from the owners house it is very private and has it's own garden with views across the valley and meadow and backing onto a small wood where you are free to walk the footpaths which the owners keep clear. Great for bird watchers and nature lovers, we have seen black woodpeckers, tree creepers, nut hatches and hoopoes amongst many others .It is an ideal retreat for a peaceful break, perfect for couples or friends. The road to Chez Neymard and La Maison d'Amis is literally on the way to nowhere, we are at the end of a single track road, so peace and quiet is assured. The owners cultivate willows in their garden for their basket making workshop and have a studio/atelier which guests are welcome to visit and watch the basket making process.

A beautiful place
Beautiful property, ideal for a peaceful idyllic stay. The property feels remote but is actually within really easy distance of the pleasant village of St Pardoux la Riviere which has a couple of restaurants and a well stocked supermarket. Lots to see and do in the surrounding areas and we could easily have spent longer in this part of Perigord.

Little paradise....
We felt very happy as if we were in our own little Paradise. Every day we had sunny weather; we could choose on wich terrace we would like to sit and enjoy the beautiful and peacefull surrounding. We had everything we needed in the cottage and we ate on one of the terraces every day, had a barbecue with a glass of wine, and mostly rested, read, and enjoyed! Adrian makes beautiful baskets from their own cultivated willow branches. We bought a garden basket as a souvenir and as a reminder of this wonderful holiday!

Home from home
As soon as we arrived we knew that we had made a great choice. I remarked to Ruth that the photographs did not do it justice, beautiful and peaceful. The hosts were attentive but certainly not invasive. This was the holiday that we really needed and we have fond memories already. I would recommend this to all of our friends, will we be back, you bet. Thank you Ruth and Adrian, best wishes, Alex and Hayley.

Haven
A lovely little cottage, set in attractive garden and separated from the owners' house by a courtyard. Plenty of space inside and out. Nearest town of St Pardoux is quiet but has everything you need, and lots of interesting places in the area easily reached by car.

Characterful cottage in tranquil woodland setting.
The cottage is well designed on one floor and has several outside seating areas. We enjoyed the peace and quiet and wonderful views from the bedroom. The living/dining area was very comfortable. The cottage was shaded and lovely and cool to return to on a warm day. Adrian and Ruth were very friendly; approachable and informative but never intrusive. Périgord Vert is a rural; scenic part of the Dordogne with lots of walking trails and lakes to enjoy.

Outstanding
My partner and I have just returned from a week long stay. The weather was perfect and the Perigord Vert is of course superb. This "Gite" is the very best self catering holiday (and holiday) that we have had .. unfortunately there are only 5 stars to award. Adrian and Ruth have clearly spent a great deal of time creating and preparing the perfect location for anyone who wants to stay and it does show. And it is as if the local wildlife is in on the arrangements as well. For anyone who loves rural France or the countryside and dreams about a country idyll break without noise or interruption, here it is! "Things to see and do" are in abundance in this area of France, whether you want culture or history, activities or the small rural town life, and many seem to be " .. about 20 minutes away". It's true. Admittedly there are many other attractions that are anything up to 45 minutes away .. but we ran out of time this year and the inclination to just stay in the garden and wander around the local woods was too great! Even if you already live in a rural area of your own country (we do) but want a break somewhere new, our recommendation is to try out this lovely part of the world. Listing the wildlife will take up too much valuable time ..Thank you for a great stay.

Magnificient
I could write a book about this place if I was good with words. Don't know where to start... we arrived on 26/05/2018 stayed for one week. The weather wasn't the best but that didn't affect us. That place is lovely when it rains, magnificent when it's dry and peaceful all the time. Adrian and Ruth have done a great job with inside and outside of the villa. We spent most of our time outside the bedroom, enjoying the beautiful views and bird songs. If you like peace and tranquillity, clean air, good food and great wine than don't look further. Hope to return soon. P.S Adrian and Ruth, thank you ever so much for sharing your beautiful place and wishing you all the best for the future. Bekim and Kim

The property was lovely and airy with plenty of space. It was beautifully furnished and homely
If you want a get away holiday, this is it!!! We had a very chilled time and couldn't recommend it enough. It was very secluded and the view was lovely. You never see anyone "just passing" and traffic certainly isn't a problem. Idyllic is the best word. It's beautiful and quaint, homely but spacious. Adrian and Ruth are very friendly and informed. They're very discreet but available if needed, a lovely couple. They also make wicker baskets etc, choice is endless and quality is second to none. The Dordogne is a beautiful area of France with lots of markets and places to visit. We hope to return again x

Beautiful property in a lovely location.
This is a very romantic gite which is very well finished and presented. It is an old building which has been modernised to a high standard. Lovely scenic location. Really enjoyed our visit. Would highly recommend. Thank you Ruth and Adrian.

Superb gite in an idyllic setting in the beautiful French countryside!
From first contact with the owners we knew we had found something special. Great communication and so helpful. On arrival we were greeted with a nice welcome pack and friendly introductions. The gite is perfect for getting away from it all yet close enough to all the major sights, so makes an ideal spot to explore this beautiful part of the world. Inside everything you could need is provided for and in excellent condition. The owners live next door and are on hand if you want them but leave you with total privacy if not. The best stay yet. Can't wait to be back soon!!

Fantastic
What a wonderful cottage and such fantastic hosts . From the moment we arrived the owners were great helping out with anything we needed. The cottage is beautiful and every attention to detail has been catered for. There was nothing you could fault and everything spotless and beautiful . The marmalade made for you was to die for. The scenery is amazing and the area around the cottage lovingly cared for. We would recommend friends and family to visit and would love to revisit ourselves 5 star luxury

A Stunning property in the peaceful French Countryside.
We had a wonderful few days here in what my wife and I both agreed was the nicest and best-equipped property we had stayed at in all our trips to France over the years. The facilities were excellent, and the property had been very well converted into accommodation. It is next to the owners property, but completely separate and peaceful. The views are lovely and we particularly enjoyed taking our morning coffee and evening glass of wine sitting out on the patio. Ruth and Adrian are charming hosts and very knowledgeable about the surrounding area. They were always on hand if we needed them but we had complete privacy. A very nice touch was the already burning log burner when we arrived after our long drive. It was a lovely touch and added to the cosy-feel of the cottage. There are so many places to visit in the surrounding area that we would need many more life times in order to do them all! However, Adrian and Ruth had compiled a very helpful 'Top Ten' list! We had wonderful sunny weather, which always makes a difference, but we had excellent days out at 'Beynac' and the lake at Jermay. This is certainly an area we will be coming back to and unreservedly recommend Ruth and Adrian's gite as a base for your exploration of this beautiful corner of France.

One of the nicest Gites we've stayed in.
We received a warm welcome on arrival. The accommodation was all we hoped for and more. The setting is rural and peaceful but close enough to local shops to get shopping easily. Lots of pretty and interesting places to visit within a reasonable driving distance. We found many good restaurants where we ate well for a good price. Adrian and Ruth were excellent hosts. We had a great holiday and will definitely return in the future.

A room with a view! Beautiful cottage with bedroom doors to fling open and overlook the hills
Delightful cottage in a tranquil setting. Our wonderful hosts gave us a warm welcome and were always happily available when needed. The cottage facilities are excellent including satellite tv/ wifi and much care and attention to detail has been taken in decoration and home furnishings-not a cobweb in sight! An ideal setting for two wanting a peaceful getaway yet not far from many local places for sightseeing and leisure activities. We would definitely recommend booking a stay here to friends and family.

Prettiest gite in the Dordogne
This gite has been designed with comfort and style in mind and an eye for detail. The kitchen might be small, but it is perfectly formed and has all the important stuff you need to enjoy your rural French break - and the homemade apricot conserve and strawberries waiting in the fridge didn't hurt, either! The gite is full of wonderful architecural details - like the waney edged wooden inlays between the beams throughout and the view of the stars from the very comfy bed was an added bonus. Ruth and Adrian are warm and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. If you don't already love handmade baskets, you'll be signing up to come back for a course by the time your holiday is over. There are baskets throughout the gite and they are all truly lovely.

Gem of a place
The pictures of the property sold it to us. The Gite and owners property are a little off the beaten track around 2.5km outside of St Pardoux La Riviere which is a small town having a couple of restaurants and a decent supermarket. Ruth met us on arrival and showed us around and we were very impressed. There was a nice welcome pack of esentials as well as a bottle of wine. The Gite is so spacious for two people and extremely well equipped with everything you need. It was very clean and tastefully decorated. We loved having breakfast on the patio just outside the bedroom as well as the suntrap courtyard at the front of the Gite where we had our evening meal and admired the peace and tranquility. The countryside is beautiful in the surrounding area and there are plenty of places to visit locally. Ruth provides a house book with many suggestions which we followed up. Couldn't fault the Gite and both Ruth and Adrian make you feel very welcome. We would love to return in the future and can thoroughly recommend the property.

Peaceful in the middle of nowhere - La Maison d'Amis St Pardoux La Riviere
We were really impressed by the property - very well equipped, comfortable and more than meeting our expectations. The gite has been refurbished to a very high specification with more space than we expected and a choice of outside sitting areas to relax and eat. It is in the middle of nowhere and ideal if, like us, you want to peace and quiet, interrupted only by birds and wildlife. The owners, on site, are welcoming and helpful but you would not really know they were there. Roger & Julia - August 2015
