The antique Torre agli alberi is situated on one of the many hills surrounding Florence, at a height of about 520 meters above sea level. It is in a dominat position and is believed to have been one of many look out towers in the area. Hence the panoramic views of the sourrounding conutry side. Later it become part of a hunting reserve.
From three generations it has been the proprety of Lamperi family from Florence, it was purcheased at the end of the fyfties. To be used as summer home.
Variuos small towns are within 8 or 9 km of villa,one of the most important of these at 9 km is rufina. Rufina is a small but busy town with most necessary conveniences, super market, bars, petrol station, train station. So is the same for Pontassieve with a really nice historical medieval centre, markets, and train station with frequent trains to e from Florence 10 – 15 min ride!
Also at 2,5 km of country road is Borselli there you will find a general store and bar selling local product and newspapers.
Other small historic are close by, like Pelago at a distance of 4,5 km with a medieval centre square.
On the neighbourhoorning hills are importamt Chianti Wine producers, with restoration point for light lunches and dinner, and organized visits with wine tasting.One of these is Marchese de Frescobaldi and the castle of Nipozzano.
The area is famous for pecorini cheeses, prosciutto and porcine mushrooms.
On the road from Pontassieve past Borselli after a few kilometers you arrive at the passo della consuma at a height of 1050 mt above sea level, this area is popular with cyclist and bikers, from here it is also possible to trek and is close to the nature reserve of Vallombrosa, home of abbazia,which is still in use and ids home to a monks who still prepare liquors,soap creams from herbs found in the neighbouring forest.
