"Bare bones, but the room was clean and the bed comfortable. There was bottled water in the room and a hot shower (which in Costa Rica is not always a given). I was pleased, too, that they did come pick me up at the airport even though my plane arrived after stated shuttle hours."

If you have connecting flights or pick ups near the airport this is a good place to stay otherwise I would go more out into the suburbs.

Get up to Poas for sure- beautiful views on the mountain. Consider staying at Poas Lodge and Restaurant- great hosts and delicious food! La Paz waterfall is good too. Take in all the landscape and views of Costa Rica.

We didn’t spend any time in the surrounding area. Got dropped off at Berlor by a taxi, and taken to the airport the next morning via shuttle. There was a loud rooster very early in the morning, but we woke up early for our flight anyways.
