Beautifully renovated with its original charm, this North Carolina historic landmark, the “Delany House”, is the perfect place to take in the best of Downtown Raleigh. It’s a 15-minute walk or minutes drive to outstanding restaurants, museums, coffee shops, parks, Red Hat Amphitheater, the Merrimon-Wynne wedding venue, and so much more.
And it’s equipped with the latest in technology: Fiber WIFI, smart TVs and streaming services like Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime.
We live in the neighborhood and are here when you need us. It's easiest to reach me on my cell or through the app. Thanks!
Staying in a downtown Raleigh neighborhood means that you will experience a diverse area with all kinds of wonderful people -- black, white, hispanic, LGBTQ, young professionals, families with kids, and elderly people who's kin settled here in the early 1900's.
Our own family has lived in this neighborhood for 15 years, and we love it! We raise our young children here, and have lots of different kinds of friends.
While certainly urban in nature, the neighborhood is considered quite safe.
If you're looking for a vibrant community with a mishmash of people, housing and places to visit with-in a 15/20-min walk, this is a great neighborhood for you. If you're someone who's intimidated by an urban feel with the occasional gritty street corner or wayward drifter, trying another part of Raleigh might be best.
We took careful detail to restore the beauty of the “Delany House”, while adding all the comforts of modern living: spacious kitchen with premium appliances and cookware, multiple smart TVs with streaming services, office space, private/fenced-in yard with grill station, al fresco dining and lounge area, and huge washer/dryer.
Pop over to one of Raleigh's neighborhood coffee shops or local hot spots — James Beard Award Winners, Ashley Christensen and Scott Crawford both have several spots nearby.
Walkable to parks and playgrounds, running/biking trails and of course, the best of Downtown Raleigh.
Our neighborhood is within immediate proximity to Downtown Raleigh’s best. It's a diverse and tight-knit community, considered the most up-and-coming in Downtown Raleigh. It’s a mishmash of all kinds of people -- young professionals, families with kids and retirees. While it is a downtown, urban community, the neighborhood is certainly considered quiet and safe. Please scroll down to read more about to neighborhood, so you know if it's right for you.
Looking to travel outside of downtown? We’re a close commute to I-440, which connects to the rest of the city and its surrounding areas, including Durham and Chapel Hill.
Parking is free, on-street, directly next to and in front of our home. We do not offer off-street parking.
In response to our reviews, we've lighted our check-out rules, so guests only strip beds and run the dishwasher. This helps our cleaning crew big time. And a new service provides ample TP, paper towels, cleaner, and soaps.
The History of our Home:
The Lemuel and Julia Delany House is significant for its association with Raleigh's Black community during the early and mid-twentieth century. Distinguished physician and business leader Lemuel Thackara Delany and his wife, Saint Augustine’s College professor Julia Delany, hosted many renowned visitors to Raleigh as either personal friends or as part of Raleigh’s “Green Book”, a network of homes offering friendly accommodation to people of color during the early/mid-century Jim Crow era.
The Delany’s hosted legendary artists, musicians, dignitaries and intellects, such as jazz musicians Duke Ellington and Cab Calloway, opera great Marian Anderson, actor Paul Robeson, and activist sociologist and founder of the NAACP, W.E.B. Du Bois.
