Stay in Plettenberg Bay and spend your days on Central Beach, one of the busiest beaches in Plett. Head here for thrills on the water, wildlife watching excursions and oceanfront restaurants. Pick up new skills such as surfing and scuba diving or simply soak up the South African sun on warm, golden sand.
Walk along the beachfront and down parallel streets to find a number of different shops and tour operators offering everything you need for a fun-filled day at the beach. Visit one of the surf shops to rent gear or ask about surfing lessons. The warm, clear waters of the bay are ideal for both beginners and pros.
Join an ocean safari for a boat ride to meet some of the marine life that lives nearby. The waters of Plettenberg Bay are shielded from the harshest elements by the Robberg Peninsula, so many sea creatures will come to swim here. Get up close to the resident colony of Bryde’s whales and watch for southern right whales, bottlenose dolphins and Cape fur seals frolicking in water.
Swim with some of these animals on a diving excursion in the bay. Friendly seals will happily come close to you as you paddle through the clear water here. Put on a pair of flippers and a snorkel, then paddle out into bay.
Charter a yacht or hop on a Jet Ski for a high-speed experience of the Indian Ocean. For a more tranquil activity, bring along a fishing rod and attempt to land a catch.
In the evening, dine on freshly caught fish in one of the restaurants by the beach. Seafood is especially popular here, so feast on fresh oysters and shrimp while enjoying views of the ocean. Choose between Spanish, American and South African styles of cooking.
Central Beach is located in between Robberg Beach and Keurbooms Beach, near the center of Plettenberg Bay town. Drive here and park on the southern end near the Beacon Island Resort.
