Visit Petřín Lookout Tower (Petřínská rozhledna) to experience one of the best views of Prague’s magnificent cityscape and countryside. This spot is a photographer’s dream, with major city landmarks visible in all directions. Petřín Lookout Tower opened in 1891 as part of the Prague Jubilee Exhibition, a centennial celebration of the city’s first world’s fair.

This 210-foot-tall (64-meter) tower rises from a landscaped garden at the summit of Petřín Hill, which itself is 1,043 feet (318 meters) high. The inspiration for the tower’s design was taken from the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris. Learn about the history of the tower and Petřín Hill at an exhibit located in the tower’s basement.

Climb the 299-step spiral staircase to an open-air viewing platform take the elevator if you don’t want to walk. Gaze out across the Malá Strana and Old Town district, separated by the Vltava River. Have your camera ready to snap shots of the elegant and innumerable spires of Prague’s fairytale-like cityscape.

Spot major city landmarks such as the Charles Bridge, the Old Town Bridge Tower and Prague Castle. On a clear day it’s possible to see the lush forests that decorate the countryside of the Central Bohemia region.

While here, explore the other attractions on Petřín Hill. Have some family-friendly fun at the Maze Bludiste Na Petríne mirrored labyrinth and go stargazing at the Štefánik Observatory. Admire manicured lawns, a rose garden and a fruit orchard. Stroll along the Hunger Wall, a 14th-century battlement built by the poor in exchange for food.

Reach the tower by taking a tram to Újezd LD station from Malá Strana. Then, either walk up through Petřín Hill or catch the funicular. Alternatively, the tower is a 40-minute walk from Old Town Square.

Petřín Lookout Tower is open daily and has an admission fee. Pay an extra charge to use the elevator. Discounted tickets are available for entrance to the tower and mirror maze. Find more information on the tower’s official website.
