The Phoenix at Willow Springs Near Yuba River

This is a unique, colorful, and fun cabin from which to launch into your Sierra adventures. The small air-conditioned cabin consists of a living room, kitchen (with full-sized refrigerator), bedroom, bathroom and large back deck. Good cell service for most providers, and the Wifi is plenty strong for work-from-home. The sofa in the living room pulls out into a bed. This cabin works best for a couple, or a couple with kids who could stay on the sofa bed. Sorry but no pets are allowed. Our goal is to offer guests a unique and memorable experience. Willow Springs is 3.7 acres that has been a residential community and artist hub through the years, and continues to host artists and life-enhancing retreats. As a guest at The Phoenix, you will have the freedom to explore the property and discover a myriad of interesting things. Witness the landmark hand-built Cobb wall, cut fresh herbs for your dinner in the memorial herb and flower garden, walk thru the newly started permaculture education garden, or just sit and watch the chickens. Wild critters live here as well, and if you are lucky you may get a glimpse of a shy fox or hear it bark during the night. Not-so-shy raccoons check here regularly during the night. Birders will enjoy the diversity of species found here at various times, attracted to the mulberries and bird feeders, such as hummingbirds, finches, bluebirds, pigeons, towhees, waxwings, nuthatches, hawks, acorn woodpeckers, and around the beginning of March large flocks of Sandhill cranes are in flight overhead on their migration route. Enjoying a cup of coffee and listening to the birds off the deck in the morning is magical. Located only 10 minutes from both the South Yuba River State Park, Oregon Creek State Park, and Bullards Bar Resevoir - you are in close proximity to many hiking, swimming, and recreating opportunities! Guests will have The Phoenix cabin completely to themselves, and can wander most parts of the property while respecting the rights of residents. There are 2 other small cabins located nearby with residents, but everyone is very friendly and there has never been any issue for guests. We live nearby and are always available by mobile phone should you have any questions or need anything. This is your vacation, so even though we are friendly and quite social ourselves, we will let you set the level of interaction after your arrival and introduction to the property. There is a lockbox at the door with access to the key to the lodge This area offers so much to make your vacation special in terms of events and places. Within 10-15 minutes, the Oregon Creek swimming area provides a refreshing plunge on a hot day or go south to the breathtaking waterway of the South Yuba River or go hiking and biking on one of many trails in the Tahoe National Forest. The picturesque downtowns of Nevada City and Grass Valley offer a "movie set experience" with plenty of restaurants and shops along the boardwalks. Here are some of our favorite places and things to do: Hiking and boating at Bullards Bar Resevior. Hiking and exploring Malokoff State Park. Swimming and picture taking at Yuba River State Park. Hiking and discovering old mining bridges at Independence Hiking Trail. Hiking and appreciating history at Bridgeport Covered Bridge. Attend a service at Ananda Village or attend their Tulip Festival in April. Attend the Sierra Storytelling Festival in July. Shop at Mother Trucker’s organic market. Have a steak and baked potato at the famous Willow Steak House Located only 25 minutes from Nevada City and just off scenic State Highway 49, The Phoenix at Willow Springs is easy to find. No driving down unmarked dirt roads without cell service in the dark. To get here, turn on Highway 49 heading north towards Downieville. After 13 miles, take the first right on School Street after passing the "North San Juan" sign on State Highway 49. Parking is available right in front of the cabin. This cabin/back deck is a no-smoking property. Smoking permitted only in the front gravel areas. The propane fireplace does not have a child safety screen, nor does the back deck have a railing. Therefore this cabin may not be best for toddlers.

Phoenix cabin
It was just what we needed after giving up real camping. The slightly rustic cabin had everything we needed and was a good location to get out to the Yuba River.

Nice quiet place.
Enjoyed our stay. enjoyed having a couple of kitties around to remind us of home. Could have used another sweep job before we arrived but not a big deal.

Great stay!
This place is so cute! The pictures do not do it justice! It’s the perfect size for 2 people. Quiet, close to NSJ, and very clean. But by far my favorite thing was the water pressure in the shower. The shower was small, but the water was mighty. I’m dreaming of showering here again. 😂 Thank you to the hosts for a wonderful stay.
