The impressive building, built in 1909, commands the hilltop on Penglais Road in the city centre. It was designed by architect, Sidney Greenslade, who won the prestigious competition to design the building, which has since been modified over the years to make room for larger collections.
The National Library of Wales contains a wide range of classics, including the Black Book of Carmarthen, the Book of Taliesin and the works of Geoffrey Chaucer. Although the library has a diverse collection, its collecting policy is focused on Welsh-language and Celtic material.
