Mountain Joy Cottage #8, Little Bear, was built in the early 1840's aNd was the Medford residence of the Iron Duff/Crabtree area and was moved to its current location in the early 1+50's. This cottage has exposed log interior walls that gives it a unique appeal. This cottage has interesting details that we have added to remind us of the black bears that our native to our area.
Originally the homestead of Maggie Setzer, for whom Maggie Valley was named, the land that Mountain Joy sits is a special place. You will become enchanted with it’s mountain charm, family atmosphere and character. We offer all the modern conveniences you would expect with the year-round access and seclusion that very few can offer.
Enjoy the peaceful country setting of our cottages. We have one, two and four bedroom cottages all equipped with wood burning fireplaces, cable TV, internet and kitchens ready to cook a home made meal. Outside the porches have rocking chairs so you can enjoy your morning coffee or enjoy the sunset on the mountains in the evening. Our glass enclosed outdoor pool (seasonal) offers a delightful place to relax.
Mountain Joy Cottages are centrally located in the heart of Maggie Valley just one block up Setzer Cove Road with easy access to all of the area attractions. We are just minutes off of the Scenic Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The area is loaded with craft, antique and gift shops. The great outdoors offers horseback riding, golf on area mountain courses, trout fishing in streams, white water rafting and scenic drives. Snow skiing and tubing is available for the entire family at Cataloochee Ski Area. Nightlife includes everything from Jazz to Bluegrass, clogging or dinner entertainment. Our cottages are just a short drive to the Great Smoky Mountain Railway, AshEville and The Biltmore Estate, Cherokee and the Indian Reservation and Harrah’s Casino and historic downtown Waynesville.
