I don’t understand why this place has such a high rating, and the price seems unreasonable (even in central London, you can find much better hotels for the same price). The staff has no sense of hospitality: check-in is at 4 PM, we arrived around 5, yet they still asked us to wait without offering tea or coffee after our journey. In the morning, I informed them that there was no shower gel, shampoo (a 2-in-1), or conditioner in the bathroom—the bottles were empty. I was told I should have come down and asked for it myself! For over £100 per night, do I still need to go ask for basic amenities? The hotel also doesn’t provide slippers or a robe, and there was litter on the bathroom floor and bits of what looked like leaves on the bed. The carpet looks dirty. I chose this hotel for its advertised spa facilities. I called a day before to check if everything was in working order and was assured it was, yet the steam room was out of service with no prior notice. There’s a small sauna that’s almost always full, a hot tub, and a small pool. This is not a true spa experience; the sauna is only worth it if you use the gym as a member. The wet area is moldy, and the paint is peeling (it should really be tiled). On the positive side: the furniture is new, the bed is comfortable, the breakfast is a standard English breakfast, there’s parking, and the shower has good pressure and consistent temperature.

We stayed here as we were going to a friends birthday party in Buxton. - Plenty of parking - Free Wifi - Friendly Staff - Lovely building - Very nice, mondern, big rooms - Very clean - Great price - Breakfast was fantastic - Spa ok - Would definitely stay again and highly recommend.

We had a lovely stay. Booked for dinner on arrival, only to be told that we couldn’t dine in the main area with a baby when arriving for dinner. The baby change facilities smelt like the bin had never been changed. Everywhere else was clean and kept well. Rooms are really lovely.

Great place, impressive rooms and very nicely done out inside, as well as clean. Decent spa and pool area as well which is included in the stay so that’s a nice addition. Would recommend and would happily stay again.

We enjoyed our stay. The room was great. The pool area was really well kept up. Breakfast was decent. But we would recommend not eating at the “restaurant”. Although the food was fine but basic, the service was not good. Food was coming out and no one knew what table they went to. We were told the wrong table number and not shown to our table. We were told to order at the bar despite it being a restaurant. And then once we ordered someone came and asked had we ordered. So still confused about that. It was just a bit chaotic. But overall we had a good stay.

Would not stay again. Firstly they market the king room as superior. Paid a premium for it and it’s two beds pushed together with no mattress topper so a big gap. The shower gel bottle was empty. The room was otherwise clean. The spa is underwhelming. The main issue was going for dinner. Pre booked a table. (Alice at reception was lovely). When we got to the restaurant they had no record of the booking. Were told to go sit wherever. 30 minutes we were sat there without menus or service. When I asked if we could have menus we were told it’s bar service. Even though the table next to us were having wine poured and ordering from the menu at the table. Ordered food - food came out was very disappointing quality. Asked the waiter about the missing side dishes. Was another 15 minutes before they arrived at which point we had finished eating and were eager to leave. The website does a fantastic job or marketing an up market luxury hotel. Unfortunately the reality doesn’t match the reality.
