A waterside weapons museum and a rusty factory serving as a bohemian art gallery are among the treats when you venture south of the city center.

Bordering the southern side of the River Aire, Hunslet is a diverse district with museums and activity centers. It has an outdoor shopping complex and several music venues as well as the Leeds City College Printworks Campus. Stroll along the riverside promenade and admire the mix of industrial and modern architecture.

Among the highlights is The Tetley, an arts venue in a former brewery. See the bright factory lights adorning the top of this redbrick building and check out its displays of contemporary art. Relax with a pint of the old factory’s beer and try Yorkshire culinary specials, such as fish and chips.

A little east, you’ll find the free Royal Armories Museum overlooking the water. Make your way through five floors of exhibits about weapons from around the globe. Study the arms on display in the Hunting Gallery, the Swords of Middle Earth exhibit and the War Gallery, among others.

Head south and attend talks and events at the Leeds Discovery Centre, which hosts a range of family-friendly activities on Wednesday mornings. Watch your little ones partake in the arts and crafts and games. Kids will also love competing with their pals on the nearby TeamSport Go Karting Leeds indoor circuit.

For a change of theme, browse the stores in the outdoor mall at Crown Point Shopping Park. It has a varied selection of sports shops, budget stores and fashion boutiques. Go for a meal with your family at one of the restaurants in the complex.

The Hunslet neighborhood occupies the southern side of Leeds. Walk south from the Leeds railway station for about 10 minutes to reach the heart of the district. Travel to some of the surrounding parts, such as Holbeck, Cross Green and Saxton Gardens.
