With extensive hiking trails, alpine pastures, waterfalls, ski slopes and snow parks, Krimml is ripe for year-round outdoor pursuits. Surrounded by the Hohe Tauern National Park and the Zillertal Arena ski area, awesome scenery is right on the mountain village's doorstep. Hike mountainous trails, ski cross country or challenge yourself on an abseiling adventure.
One of Krimml's biggest draws is the spectacular Krimml Waterfalls. With a drop of 1,247 feet (380 meters), these are the highest falls in Austria and among the highest in Europe. Reach them on a hike that starts in the village. Down from the falls is the Wondrous Worlds of Water, an aquatic theme park with an outdoor adventure world. Summer visitors with young children may also like to stop by the Spruce Tree Castle, which has a climbing tower, adventure playground and water and sand play areas.
Discover more of the area by investigating over 37 miles (60 kilometers) of marked walking paths at various altitudes. Cycle along mountain bike paths and swim, surf and rent a pedal boat at the Durlaßboden Reservoir.
If you want more adrenalin and less relaxation, you can abseil waterfalls, fly along a zip wire and go rafting. Then speed through the mountainous countryside on the Arena Coaster in Zell am Ziller, a year-round roller coaster.
Come back to Krimml during the winter for snow-based fun. Ski and snowboard the slopes of the Zillertal Arena. Tackle the turns and jumps of the Snow Park in Gerlos and the Action Park in Zell. Experience an exhilarating ride on the 4-mile (7-kilometer) toboggan run in Hainzenberg. Advanced skiers may want to challenge themselves with a descent down the valley on the HöhenFresser Tour (Height-Devouring Tour) ski run, which starts at an altitude of 8,202 feet (2,500 meters) above sea level and has a descent of over 6,300 feet (1,930 meters).
Krimml is located in the Zillertal Valley, and is well connected by road, and also has a rail connection to Zell am See. It is also easily accessible via the international airports in Innsbruck, Salzburg and Munich, Germany.
Take advantage of a vacation destination where there are relaxing and thrilling outdoor pursuits at all times of the year.
