This beautiful bungalow in Bruichladdich is situated directly beside
Loch Indaal with stunning views to Bowmore and its
famous distillery, The Oa and the Paps of Jura.
The bungalow, called Failte, Gaelic for Welcome, has recently been
extensively refurbished and modernised to create a stunning 5 bedroom
property. As the house is a bungalow all rooms are easily accessible.
The house has been upgraded to a high standard to create a bright and
welcoming place to stay.
There are 5 bedrooms - 3 bedrooms have superking-sized zip link beds
which can be unzipped to create 6 single beds. The other 2 rooms are
twin rooms so in total the house sleeps 10. We ask that visitors advise
how many beds they require when booking so we can arrange the rooms
accordingly!
There are 2 shower rooms with electric power showers (one is an en-suite
off the rear bedroom) and there is also a separate WC.
The kitchen is of a good size and is well equipped with everything you
would expect - fridge, oven and hob, microwave, cooking utensils, pots, bowls, crockery etc. There is also a
breakfasting area suitable for a couple of people to sit at and eat or
chat with the chef while in the kitchen. There is a separate
Utility room with sink, washing machine and freezer.
The living room is a large space with 3 sofas that can easily seat 10/11
people and has amazing views over the loch. It has a large TV with Freeview box.
The property has WiFi throughout, with a 60Mb download speed.
The dining room is in the conservatory next to the
living room to the rear of the property and has a very large table that
can accommodate 10 people easily for large gatherings.
The house has central heating throughout which is controlled via a time clock.
The bungalow has a fully enclosed garden - walled to the front and side
with fencing enclosing the rest. There is a gate across the drive which can be closed
to ensure the safety of any children playing in the garden.
There is a parking area and a long driveway which can
accommodate 4 or more cars.
The garage can be used for storing bikes, wetsuits, surfboards or just muddy boots during your stay.
There is a patio area to the rear of the conservatory with a table and
chairs which can be used as an additional entertaining or relaxing
area.
Check in time is 3pm on the day of arrival and check out time is 10am on the day of departure.
The bungalow is located in the middle of Bruichladdich and is approx 3
minutes walk to the distillery where you can sample various whiskys,
Botanist gin made in the distillery and also take tours of the
distillery or partake in the cocktail making classes. They also have a
lovely gift shop stocked with a seating area where you can sit and sample the
produce!
There is also a small mini market and cafe just along
from the house which serves the best bacon rolls on the island,
sandwiches and lovely Italian coffee, teas
and soft drinks. So if you fancy breakfast or lunch or maybe just a
coffee and a cake then we'd recommend a visit to the Mini Market. The
carrot cake is fantastic!
Opposite the house is the loch and as it is relatively shallow it
is possible to paddle and swim. Further into Bruichladdich there is a
pier from which you can fish or perhaps try your hand at
crabbing.
Approx 2 miles away is Port Charlotte where you will find various
restaurants serving fresh seafood and locally sourced oysters amongst
other things. The bars and pubs are always full of very friendly locals
and visitors always willing to have a chat. There is The Port Charlotte
hotel which offers accommodation, food and live music at various times
of the year. There is also Yan's Kitchen and the Lochindaal pub both
offering excellent food. Just outside Port Charlotte is Port Mor, a
campsite with onsite restaurant open to the public. This is a nice
place to visit with children as there is an outside play park for the
children to enjoy.
If you are a lover of Whisky then Islay is definitely the place to
visit. Currently there are 8 distilleries on the Island with the 9th
currently being built. Ardnahoe should be finished and ready for
visitors in late May, just in time for Islay's Whisky Festival - Feis Ile
which is usually held over 9 days. Each distillery has an open day
where you can sample each whisky and enjoy some music and food.
There are various other celebrations and experiences on Islay which make
it a great place to visit. There is walking week, jazz festival, beach
rugby tournament, Islay Half Marathon, Ride of the Falling rain 100m
mile bike ride, the Islay Show and much more. Islay is a beautiful place
to visit and has a lot of wildlife right on your door step.
Finally please don’t forget the Islay Wave! If you are a driver it is
customary to acknowledge other cars on the road with a wave of your
hand. It's a friendly thing to do and makes you feel part of Islay life.
