Explore the tree-lined shores of Lake Windermere and go swimming, boating or fishing in summer then head for the town’s fabled ski slopes and steaming hot springs in winter.

The town of Invermere is a relaxing vacation destination on the shores of one of the warmest lakes in the Columbia Valley. Families love returning to the sandy beaches for long days in the sun, while hang-gliding and boating adventures suit outdoors enthusiasts. Experience the town’s surrounding mountain scenery on a ski trip or try out one of the region’s renowned golf courses.

The downtown area, known as Invermere-on-the-Lake, is the perfect introduction to the wider township. Experience fantastic local dining and cozy pubs or discover some of the downtown art galleries and boutiques. Make your way to the shores of Lake Windermere to see breathtaking views across the shimmering waters to blue-tinted mountains.

Check out Kinsmen Beach and swim in one of the warmest lakes in the Kootenay Rockies. The beach is protected by a string of foreshore trees, offering plenty of shade on hot summer days. The swimming area is shallow and perfect for families. Go farther south to reach Columbia Lake to reach more pristine lakeside beaches and pretty scenery for boating, canoeing, waterskiing and windsurfing. Try river rafting on the wild waters of the Kootenay River or Toby Creek. Scenic floats are also available on the Columbia Wetlands.

Keen golfers will be excited to try out some of the Windermere Valley’s famed golf courses. With 15 courses packed into this cozy corner of the Kootenay Rockies, there’s something for every golfing preference.

James Chabot Provincial Park is a pretty leafy area to explore near downtown Invermere. Go farther afield into the surrounding parks and reserves to experience stunning natural scenery and spot wildlife. Go fishing at Whiteswan Lake and be awed by the Marble Canyon in Kootenay National Park. Panorama Mountain Resort is the town’s premier wintersports destination.

Invermere is located in southeastern British Columbia, close to the border of Alberta. The town lies between GoldenOpens in a new window and Cranbrook and can be reached by car and bus. Calgary International Airport is a 3-hour drive away. Sheltered by the Rocky Mountains and Mount Nelson, Invermere has warm summers and mild winters.

Much cheaper options than staying in Panorama. Town is really spread out, little tough for walking.

Super nice and quaint little town. Most services available.

I use Invermere as my base when I'm out birding in the Columbia Valley. It's handy to Golden and to Cranbrook, an easy drive to Calgary. The town has history and character and western painted turtles. And an absolutely fabulous bakery.

People werent very friendly. I would not recomend going to Huckleberry's restaurant. The food was mediocre and the service was awful. Kicking horse coffee brewing company was pretty cool. And the hot spring's at radium were worth it.

Cute town but not a lot of options for dining or going out if you are younger.
