This charming property is self-contained with separate and private access.
Villa Marchi, built in 1873 and restored in July 2016, is set in terraced gardens of lemon and orange trees, with beautiful cobbled-stone steps leading down to an eye-catching iron gateway and directly to the sea.
Built for a trader in Japanese artefacts and designed by reputable architect Nikola Marchi, it originally contained a theatre and a large collection of oriental art. So significant was its reputation as "the most beautiful villa in the Adriatic" that it was visited by the Austrian Emperor Franz Josef I in 1875. Today, the villa is divided into three parts, and we are offering a remarkable first-floor apartment with a Romeo and Juliet balcony, views across the harbour and islands, a private terraced garden with seating areas, and a summer kitchen ideal for preparing al fresco meals and refreshments.
Entering through the wrought iron gates, the pebbled stone steps lead you past several terraced garden areas until you reach a stone column portico. The main door to the villa leads into a spacious communal hall with stone stairs and an intricate, elaborate balustrade that takes you to the first floor. Entering the apartment leads to a small inner hall with rooms on both sides. Double doors lead to the main bedroom, which is situated at the rear of the building. The bedroom is well-appointed and includes a large double bed with a quality mattress and bedside tables and lamps. There is also a run of mirror-fronted wardrobes with hanging rails and shelves. The bedroom is fitted with a "silent night" air conditioning system with climate control, allowing the ability to sleep with the ideal room temperature. The ensuite bathroom is well-designed with a spacious shower cubicle, a large rain shower head, and, in addition, a handheld shower. A wash hand basin set in a vanity unit with a mirror above and WC to complete this room.
The living room is situated at the front of the building and is a beautifully proportioned room with high ceilings and an oak wood floor finish. A set of arched windows allows a stunning view of the crystal clear Adriatic and the nearby islands. There is a range of furniture including a sofa and seats, a modern, flat-screen TV and internet connection. A dining room area leads off from the main living room, which has a dining room table and chairs. This, in turn, leads through to the kitchen.
The kitchen is compact but perfectly formed with all the necessities to make life a breeze whilst on holiday. It is wanting for nothing and has beautiful views to the front and side garden. Off the kitchen is a small hall leading to both the the garden and second shower room. This also has a large shower, a fixed shower head and a handheld shower. A basin is within a vanity unit, and there is a WC.
The second bedroom is located off the living room, and although a little smaller, it is just as beautifully presented as the main bedroom, with twin beds that can be put together to make a double bed with bedside tables. There is a run of mirror-fronted wardrobes with shelving and hanging rail and French doors leading to a romantic Romeo and Juliet balustrade balcony, which has the most beautiful vista looking over the gardens and the sea beyond to the islands off Hvar town.
The outside area is an important addition to any holiday accommodation, and the garden has been designed in order to maximise the eating and living space. There are several relaxation areas both on several terraces and in the meditation room, a lovely stone building that has been restored in exposed stone and wood. There is also a summer kitchen, which is ideal for the preparation of food for those outside al fresco meals.
Apart from the beautifully appointed accommodation, Villa Marchi has an unrivalled position, being located only minutes from the nearest beach and also within 5 minutes of Hvar town main square! Pretty much everything is on your doorstep, from the catamarans to Split to taxi boats, cafes, bars, and restaurants.
We hope that you will enjoy this wonderful apartment, staying in what is definitely the most beautiful Villa in Hvar.
