The Hollister Mansion-112 YEARS OF ELEGANCE

Located in Prescott, Wisconsin, just blocks away from the scenic St. Croix & Mississippi Rivers, this 1906 Victorian masterpiece, was built by lumber baron George S. Hollister (1852-1936) who owned the Prescott Lumber Company.

Hollister had access to and used the area's finest lumber to create this stunning Victorian mansion, the crown jewel of St. Croix River’s Victorian homes. With over 5,000 square feet, the mansion was once a bed and breakfast and now available for your special event and overnight lodging. The Mansion sleeps 16 guests.

The Mansion boasts a formal salon parlor with a fireplace, music room, library, living and dining room, large kitchen, butler's kitchen, formal foyer, library, Queen Anne porch, four season porch; that's just the first floor. The second floor has 6 bedrooms, 5 spa tubs, 5 fireplaces, 5 air conditioners, and 5 bathrooms. The 3rd floor has large and flexible entertainment space with a professional sound system and lights, as well as, 2 bedrooms and bathroom. There are original stain glass windows, intricate woodwork and hard wood floors throughout the house.

The Hollister Mansion is located in Prescott, a colorful rivertown with a public marina with river boat access, private marina, beaches, fine and casual dining and lots of historical charm.

Disliked: Cleanliness
Hollister Mansion
The property was in disrepair. There were broken windows. Many windows had flimsy paper blinds. The closets and benches were full of junk. The rugs were heavily soiled. A stair handrail was partially pulled from the wall. We found a dead mouse in a mouse trap. The main stairs still had carpet tacks present from carpeting that had been removed. Some of the light fixtures were not secure to the ceiling.

Great Location
Wonderful location to use as a base camp for nearby activities. Easy walking distance to restaurants and bars down on main street. The porch area in back of the house, complete with a grill - is a great place to spend an evening!

Beautiful Victorian home
We held our wedding in the Hollister mansion home and reception in a beautiful English garden style tent in the backyard. The house was great for pictures and served as the perfect backdrop. We love how everything turned out! The owners were also very responsive to our needs through out the entire week.

Great place for family gatherings. We were very pleased with the property and owners service.
Home was nicely decorated for Christmas for our 18 member family. Space was very adequate for all. Extensive use of kitchen went well. Gathering spaces were also very adequate for our family Christmas celebration. We were very satisfied with owners response to requests and questions we had pertaining to accommodations and kitchen supplies.

Fun at the Mansion!
We stayed two nights at the Hollister Mansion with 6 couples on a motorcycle trip weekend. The owners were very responsive and wonderful to work with. Staying in the house was like going back in time and we loved the vintage historical feel. The amenities offered were very adequate; kitchen was well equipped, beds comfortable, plenty of towels for everyone. Two showers available in the house and there was enough hot water for us all to get through each morning without anyone ending up with a cold shower. No one in our group has any real musical talent but it was fun to play piano, guitar and percussion in the music room like they would have in the old days to entertain ourselves (and believe me- we are entertaining!) The selection of books in the library is great; we glanced thru a few of the books on local history. We also enjoyed our time there hanging outside on the back porch. It was a two block walk down the hill to find a great coffee shop, restaurants and shops. Overall, very nice place to stay with a group if you are looking for something different and unique.

Pleasant stay at this roomy Mansion
The Mansion was perfect for our 1920’s Murder Mystery Dinner Party. There was more than enough room for everyone to spread out and enjoy the timeless décor. After the murder was solved we walked down to the local establishments for a couple cocktails. Upon our return to the Mansion we retreated to the 3rd floor for a nightcap and of course Karaoke. Remember to bring a sleeping mask...the morning sun is beautiful but very bright without window blinds. They had everything one would need for hosting a dinner party and overnight guests. Brian was accommodating and informative.

Working with the owners was great-They respond quickly and are informative. The mansion is a fun place to stay at with a large group. Only 2 showers but the bathtubs and toilets in bedrooms are helpful. Overall, great experience. Thank you!

A unique and interesting historic weekend
Six couples on a weekend getaway stayed at the Hollister Mansion. This grand old house is a "step back in time," and we imagined what it must have been like to actually live in this mansion. From the grand porch entrance to the "secret" back stairway, we explored the nooks and crannies of this Victorian abode. We shared a dinner in the dining room using glassware and dishes of the bygone era, and we gathered around the baby grand piano, imagining a mini-recital while we sipped tea! Upkeep and maintenance for a mansion like this must be a challenge, but we applaud the owners for all of their efforts in giving us a weekend to remember!

Very nice, lots of space!
Brian was very accommodating, and communications with him ahead of time were timely and informative. We very much enjoyed our stay. We were traveling with 10 high school tennis players for a tournament, and with 2 coaches, this was a great set-up for us. It was easier to watch the kids compared to hotel rooms, and we had more than enough space! Thanks, Brian!

Wonderful place for a large group gathering
My sister and I rented the mansion for a group of relatives the weekend of my niece's wedding. There was room for everyone, and it was great to have a gas grill, kitchen, and space to spread out for coffee and conversations. The bridal party also came over to make bouquets, get dressed, and pose for photos, something that wouldn't have been nearly as nice or convenient at a motel. The weather turned unseasonably hot our second night, and the air conditioner on one floor failed. This, of course, was not the owner's fault, and Brian refunded some of money we had paid. He also bought room air conditioners for the two rooms that didn't have air conditioning. No one had mentioned being uncomfortable before, so he hadn't realized those rooms were a problem. Brian definitely did his best to make us comfortable. One negative is the design of the kitchen, which includes a butler's kitchen, but there is only one refrigerator, a challenge when you have 16 occupants, plus guests at meal time. In addition, the dishes were beautiful, but I would have appreciated some pleasantries to go with them such as table cloths, napkins, placemats, all the things that are now inexpensive at garage sales and antique stores because so many people no longer appreciate them; people who rent mansions, however, do! The other negative was that the price was almost twice what I have paid for VRBO properties of equal quality and appeal when I have arranged gatherings, but I was willing to pay more this time because of the proximity to an airport and to the nature center in Hastings where the wedding was held. Being able to pick up guests who flew in, get quickly to and from the wedding site, and avoid having to rent cars put the cost/person of the weekend closer to what I am used to paying. The price does, however, keep me from choosing the mansion as a setting for the week-long gatherings my group of friends enjoy.

I am giving the Mansion 2.5. Loved the venue, old Victorian home but not vey clean.
Had our nieces Harry Potter bridal shower at this home. The style of the home fit in perfect with our Hogwarts theme. Plenty of room for guest and bedroom space for our bachelorette party that followed the bridal shower. Several guest commented best bridal shower every, the mansion made the event. The owner Brain was responsive to all of my emails & questions. The only draw back was the houses is in a much needed thorough cleaning and dishes needed washing before we could use them, I would give it a 2 rating in this area.

Wonderful place to stay!
This was the perfect place to stay and host a bridal shower. We had girls come from out of state for the bride and having many rooms was just what we needed. We absolutely loved having bathrooms in each room and also the jacuzzis and fireplace in each bedroom was a nice treat! The bride was very happy and so were all the guests! I would definitely recommend staying here.

Beautiful house, perfect for our reunion
The house was immaculate. There were plenty of plates and cups and glasses in the kitchen, although the stove top was a bit difficult to do serious cooking on. The bathtubs were a fun addition--at least one of us took a bubble bath and enjoyed it very much! Our hosts were very accommodating and nice. They provided us with 2 Pack n Plays for the kids in our group, which was much appreciated. The house just has so much space! We all enjoyed hanging out in the beautiful back yard. Thanks for a great stay!
