"Its the 3rd time we have stayed at this hotel. We like because it is close to family and there are also others attractions close by. Deddington is a nice little village. We have always found the property clean and staff are great. We noticed this time the room needs updating and freshening up. They serve a very good breakfast and for dinner there is a good choice. Restuarant is very comfortable. "
"Staff and service was great didn’t need to wave anyone down for anything they really couldn’t do enough for you. The hotel itself was very clean and well kept. The food was a little underwhelming, however; this doesn't mean it wasn’t nice, just had a little higher expectation based on other reviews. Overall a very nice place and I would definitely stay again"
"Just incredible. Such a beautiful building with kind, attentive staff in beautiful surroundings. Felt like a real treat! Sitting in the garden one morning was such a sensory treat. "
"Lovely hotel for spa, gym, games room and games area. Breakfast was fabulous. Staff really helpful. Clean.
The classic doubles are small and not really big enough for 2 adults to move comfortably around.
Shouldn't have to upgrade for this.
The bed was bouncy and tended to slant based on heavier person. Also standard double so again cosy for a 4 star hotel.
Investment needed in beds.
Double room could have been better.
Twin Room was fabulous. Much bigger to accommodate 2 people. Twin sinks.

"We were travelling through so needed good food and a comfortable bed.
Food was alright, but my steak was tough I didn't finish it.
Lovely staff, food needs a few tweaks. No fresh fruit or yoghurt at breakfast."
"It was a hidden gem in a beautiful quaint English village, ideal to use as a base for trips out.
We loved everything about our stay and staff were so friendly and chef was outstanding with both breakfast and dinner lovely fresh food 👏"

A verified traveller stayed at Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel
"I had an absolutely unforgettable stay at Malmaison Oxford in Cell Room 128, and I can’t recommend it highly enough! This boutique hotel, set in a beautifully converted Victorian prison, blends historic charm with modern luxury in the most captivating way. Room 128, a cozy yet stylish space, was a perfect mix of quirky and comfortable. The original cell features, like the heavy door and stone walls, gave it a unique vibe, while the plush king-size bed, mood lighting, and sleek en-suite with a powerful shower made it feel indulgent. It was spotlessly clean, quiet, and the ideal retreat after exploring Oxford’s nearby sights.
The highlight of my stay, though, was the bar experience, thanks to the incredibly talented mixologist, Sam. His creativity and passion for cocktails were unmatched! Sam crafted us some of the most delicious and inventive drinks from the extensive cocktail menu, each one a masterpiece. He was friendly, engaging, and took the time to chat about his craft, making the evening feel special.
The staff were warm and attentive throughout. The hotel’s location in the Castle Quarter is unbeatable—steps from Oxford’s shops, and restaurants. My stay in Cell Room 128 was a perfect blend of history, luxury, and exceptional service, elevated by Sam’s mixology magic. Unique experience waking up in jail on my birthday......for me anyway!!! Five stars all the way."
