Cabin at Mickelson Trail and Rapid Creek in Rochford

Serene 720 sq ft cabin in the north central Black Hills with the Mickelson Trail and Rapid Creek running through the property. Enjoy direct access to the 109 mile Michelson Trail, famed for beautiful bicycling, walking or hiking, that runs through the heart of the Black Hills. The cabin has two bedrooms (curtains instead of doors on bedrooms) and one bath with a tub/shower. Both bedrooms have queen beds. Sofa sleeper in the living room. The property comes fully furnished with towels, linens, air conditioning, outdoor grill and griddle, large patio and an outdoor propane fire pit. A tv and large selection of DVD's are also available. WIFI and Verizon cell service are on the property. Access to the property crosses over a small wooden bridge so we ask that vehicles pulling trailers and oversize vehicles park at the Rochford trailhead approximately 200 yards from the cabin. There are three roads into Rochford but only the one from Lead/Deadwood (Hwy 85 WY/Alt 14 SD) is paved. The rest require 11-16 miles travel on well maintained gravel.

Great time
We had a great time in the black hills. Our boys (twin 6 year olds) loved playing with the chickens, seeing deer every morning / evening, and s’mores on the bon fire pit. A big bonus was a nice trout stream right in front of the property where we were able to do some fly fishing for trout. The property is a bit out of the way, but not too hard to get to. We liked the fact that it was a more secluded location and we’re extremely happy with the cabin.

Perfect little hide away. Very comfy house. Way larger than listing states. Only bad, no washer and dryer. Other than that, we loved it.

Piece of heaven
We had such a nice time at your place Julie! Super cute and clean and the air conditioning was a plus. My kids had such a blast checking out the chickens and ducks. My young son enjoyed putting some casts in the little stream on the property too. Having a nice patio with grill and patio furniture made eating breakfast outside delightful. We are sure to come again!

Excellent Experience!
Me and my wife booked this cabin for a 30th anniversary trip to South Dakota. This cabin has everything it’s beautiful. It’s on beautiful piece of property. It’s well-maintained. It is absolutely hands-down, the best cabin. My wife and I have stayed in. We have traveled 48 states stayed in several rentals during these travels and this one is the best by far.

Excellent place to spend time in the national forest
Spent a week at this location. It was clean and exactly as described in the listing. Owners were extremely responsive (responding within minutes to a question). Location is beautiful and squarely in the middle of the national forest. Deer in the yard most days, sometimes multiple times. The road from the south is well maintained gravel. To the north is asphalt. Would definitely stay again.

Off the beaten path.
The Johnsons were very accommodating. The coffee and eggs they provided were amazing. The home is where they typically live so thus isn't just a rental. I wish I had noticed before we rented their wasn't a washer or dryer. We were there for the Sturgis motorcycle rally and thought this would be a nice location. This cabin is nowhere near Sturgis and requires riding on gravel (although well maintained) still gravel roads to the south. So this makes it even more remote. This cabin is probably more suited for bicyclist on the Mickelson trail than motorcyclist. But if you are looking for a beautiful little town to spend time in Rochford is a great place.

Property was fantastic. It was quite large, secluded from other residences, and picturesque. Kids liked checking on the chickens and enjoyed being able to hop right on mickelson trail to ride their bikes. Loved all the Pendelton throws, linens, and towels! Would book again, thanks!

Short Getaway
My husband and I decided to try this cabin as we like to ride bike on the Mickelson Trail. The cabin is right on the trail so we could travel out right from the cabin without driving to a trailhead. That was super nice. The cabin is super clean, cozy and has a beautiful patio. The coffee bar is great! We were only there three nights and it was pretty warm during our stay, but it cooled down nicely at night.

Family Vacation
This cabin was the perfect place for our annual UTV family vacation to the Hills! The Owners happened to be there, working in the garden, when we showed up and helped us get our trailer situated and parked. There wasn’t enough room to access the property with our trailer, but that wasn’t a problem at all to unload at the trailhead, next to the cabin. We would definitely stay here again!

Black Hills Serenity
This property was perfect for our visit to the Black Hills. The house has numerous amenities and was very cozy. We saw deer and rabbits on the property and they had chickens and ducks that excited our 2 year old. You can walk to the Moonshine Gulch and it has private access to the biking/walking trail. It was really beautiful on the patio and we enjoyed s'mores one night.

Awesome cabin that our children loved
We really could not have asked for a better stay. The property owners reached out several times before we arrived and came to visit while we were packing up. Very friendly and caring couple. The cabin was beautifully remodeled and had every necessity we could think of that made it feel like we were at home. Our kids loved seeing a new part of the black hills and we will be back next summer for another stay.

This is the perfect little cabin in a small community that feels just like home. We had deer in the yard everyday that were fun to watch. Where this cabin is off the beaten path, the travel to larger towns definitely does not disappoint. Our hosts were very helpful with any questions we had & an absolutely joy to speak with.
