Nice country house
The house was nice and comfortable. We enjoyed the porch and the walks nearby. One major disadvantage was that there is no wifi.

Grandparents Visit
Our grandchildren came for several visits and overnights. It was great. The cottage is very user friendly and was quiet. The surrounding areas uncluding paddock was a bonus for our Shetland sheepdogs. The walking trails were fine. We had a fantastic stay.

Peaceful Stay with everything you need
My family had a wonderful stay at this private and peaceful restored cottage. Although the cottage is old, everything works great and has everything you need for a great stay! We loved the fire pit and comfortable outdoor chairs. We would love to come again!

Quiet countryside
Nicely appointed historic cottage with period decor and furnishings, also has a well stocked library! Off the beaten path, very private with pastoral views but still close to Gloucester and Yorktown.

Peaceful getaway
This was the perfect place to escape to. We stayed here for our son's graduation from Coast Guard A school. This was the perfect place for us to relax and enjoy family time around the campfire.

Great little hideaway
Beautiful property. Def pet friendly. No internet or tv. Great unplug time. Not to far from attractions, but away from hustle and bustle. Bring your book and games...old fashioned family time. :)

We enjoyed our stay. It was quiet. Once we were directed on how to actually access the property. Everything was great. It might be helpful to describe how to get to the property in the listing.

Perfect Peaceful Getaway
Nice older structure that can be seen in some of the wood work and fixtures. I enjoyed that thoroughly. The plumbing and kitchen features ,however, are completely up to date. We enjoyed breakfast in AM before heading out for the day and there's a pleasant enclosed porch on which to dine. The back door is practically in the woods and we saw one deer on the side of the house. The host was very accommodating sending a welcome message beforehand and answering a question afterward. I was actually thinking of personal touches I could make and living in there. LOL We have family in the area and will be back.

Not a bad little cottage.
We were pleasantly surprised by this property. It’s cozy and scenic. It was neat to walk the trail behind the house, you can kind of see the York river, but there’s trees and the marsh in the way! It was cool to sit out from and see deer running through the land surrounding the house. My only suggestion would be, a tv would be nice to have in the living room. I’d also highly suggest installing a fan on the front porch. There is no air movement with it enclosed. My family and I agree that we’d stay again.

Trip with the Grandteens
We loved the location and privacy. The firepit was a big hit for smores! The deer, rabbits and lightning bugs were so fun to watch. The interior was clean and tidy, however, the windows, inside and out could use a good cleaning. There were cobwebs galore which made it difficult to enjoy the view from the inside. The air conditioner didn't quite make it to the bedrooms which were a little stuffy at night. Overall we had a wonderful time.

Quiet, cute, and clean but isolated
The place was very cute, cozy, and clean, but in the middle of nowhere. Very quiet, with a nice view and serene if you just want to hang out inside or out on the lovely porch or near the fire pit . But no stores nearby to get food and only a few small restaurants about 15 min away. Not much to do in the area but we were about 35 min from Colonial Williamsburg, which is why we were there. Also, there is really only room to comfortable sleep up to five people, not 6 (unless it's a child who can sleep on the couch).

Gorgeous place stay -- wish we spent more time at the cottage!
I rented this hidden gem of a cottage for my mother's birthday weekend and it comfortably fit me, my parents, husband, new baby, and pets. It was a truly special experience. It reminded us of my grandparents' home that was also built in the 20s. We loved the intimacy of the stay, the décor, the books, the views. Very clean and well-stocked with linens. I had our days jam-packed with activities and wish we'd spent more time enjoying the property. Great places to walk, beautiful fire pit and grill to use. The front and back porches were lovely. The one negative was that the secondary bedroom got warm and humid so I recommend sleeping with the door open and/or bringing your own fan for air flow if it is hot out. Otherwise the house had great AC throughout. Our phone reception was fine so having no WIFI made no difference for our getaway.

Liked: Check-in
Disliked: Cleanliness, communication, listing accuracy
Not as Expected
Beautiful views but the windows were filled with dirty cob webs. Comfortable mattress but the bed linens were worn and too small for the bed. It was not throughly cleaned or properly prepped for guests (coffee maker wasn’t emptied, oven hood was filthy). Overpriced for the overall condition and lack of amenities.

Spring break getaway
Perfect little cottage for my husband and I, our 3 kids ages 15-10 and our pup! We visited Busch Gardens, Yorktown, & Jamestown during our 4-day stay. The boys enjoyed the fire pit at night and we had a family nerf gun battle on the property. Happy there was a washer & dryer so I could do laundry before we hit the road. There’s not a fenced in area for pets so we did keep our dog on a leash whenever we took him outside. We let him run around in the field with the wooden fence but had to chase him because he could walk right under the wooden slats. Also if you’re a woman of a certain age and need cool air/ good air circulation you might want to bring your own fan for the bedroom. (just some friendly tips) Overall, a great time & great location!

Delightful
My family had a wonderful time at Frogmore over spring break. It's the perfect location to reach all the locations of the historic triad. The beds were very comfortable and it had all the amenities necessary for an enjoyable stay. The only thing I would suggest is putting a lock on the bathroom door for guests' comfort. I rated four stars for the communication because once we arrived I realized I didn't know how to get in. I hadn't been given an access number, or so I thought. Once I called and texted VRBO, a company called Evolve answered and said they had sent me an email with all the check in details only minutes after I had booked the property months ago. They had sent an email but I had not looked at it thinking it was spam. I did not relate Evolve with my rental. Anyway, it got straightened out but it was a bit confusing. I was expecting an email a few days in advance with check in info.

Terrific House in a Great Space - Will Return!
We really enjoyed this cozy house. Comfortable for a small group; sleeping 6 might be pushing it, but it's possible. Great furnishings/amenities: very comfortable beds; nice linens; a stocked kitchen with pantry basics and all the dishes you need for 2-3 days' worth of meals; dishwasher; washer/dryer. Temperature control was a wall-mounted AC unit that kept it cool for us on warmer afternoons, and there are baseboard heating vents in all the main rooms. On arrival the house was very clean. The fridge/freezer are smaller than standard (about half-size) but were more than adequate to our needs and we travel with a lot of groceries. No TV or WiFi, but we found we had good cellular reception. Some of the chairs are pretty broken-in, but there's a comfortable day bed to stretch out and relax on. A highlight is the well-stocked library with a mix of history (world, state, and local), biography, art/antiques, and some fiction. We also appreciated that the house has a huge water heater that delivers hot water very quickly to both sinks and the shower. If you're very sensitive to fragrances, the laundry soap used for the bed linens is a bit floral. Outside, there's a fire pit, a big yard, and a mostly-fenced pasture area where you can run your kids (or dogs) around. There is no barrier to the road, so you'll want to keep an eye on runners, but the road is not at all busy. Warblers and other birds abound in the trees outside and it's mostly very quiet; a couple of the neighbors were getting in some target practice one afternoon but it wasn't too bothersome. At night, the star views are incredible and the area is very peaceful aside from some raccoon opera (which we could only hear if we were outside). The property is about 10 minutes from Machicomoco State Park, which has a set of hiking trails, water overlooks, and some interpretative areas to educate visitors about the local native heritage. You can drive up Rt. 17 to Gloucester or down across the Coleman Bridge into Yorktown/Williamsburg or Newport News/Virginia Beach. All the shops you need to support a short-term vacation are along 17 in either direction. The local food options are basic but there's a variety. As other reviews have noted, finding the driveway is a little challenging; basically, turn right where you see the "Frogmore" sign even though it looks like you're trespassing into someone else's driveway, and keep going between the boat and the barn. It's a little weird but you get used to it.

Should have just got a hotel room
Beautiful property. Could use some cleaning up. Cute cottage. Communication lacked a bit. I called cause I was lost at night trying to find it. I got no answer till the morning. I had to find a cottage in complete and total darkness by my self. When I say complete and total darkness I am not exagerating. Not a light to be on on a stormy night in the middle of no where. Good thing I love horror movies. I was glad I had my dog with me needless to say. Its great things are original but things need upgraded. I would loved to have been able to open the windows. I had to sleep in the library cause there was no air in the bedrooms. If I was able to open the windows that would have been great. If the door knob keeps falling off then replace it. "Its original" Wonderful! If the screw keeps falling out then fix it so you dont have to come fix it in the middle of my stay. I couldn't use the back door till the next day. He then used that time to fix the door to then cut the grass. The couple days I was there he could have picked another day and time to cut the grass than the time I was enjoying the peace and quiet of the outside. I was gone the day before. I didn't leave all the next. I just wanted to relax. I couldn't continue to relax and stay outside cause he kicked up the bugs with the cutting of the grass. Then just the sheer annoyance of him picking that time to cut the grass. Then that night I took a bath. Relaxing , I was seeing how dirty the bathroom was. The door was filthy with nasty hand prints. Under the soap dishes was noticeably not been cleaned for quit a while. Then the shower walls when the light hit it at the right angle. Needless to say I got out immediately. The fenced in pasture? Make it so one can let their dog into it. Just saying. I wasn't wanting to even say anything and leave it be but, I specifically stayed in this cottage to get away for some peace and quiet and away from people. It didn't happen. There's alot of potential and this place could have been a wonderful place for peace and quiet

Nice Place
1. Back porch steps REALLY need work. We tripped down them several times over our stay. 2. Need to add "microwave" to amenities list. 3. If there's an outdoor fire pit, wood should be supplied or it shouldn't be listed as such. Buying enough wood for the weekend if there's none there could cost $50-$60. 4. Everything else was fantastic. Grill, kitchen utensils and appliances, beds, linens, furniture were all great.

Peaceful Getaway!
Amazing 3 days/nights! My hubby & I wanted to get out of DC to enjoy a peaceful getaway & this was perfect! The cottage was little rough on outside, understandably for a 1920s cottage BUT lawn was beautifully mowed, plenty of firewood & SUPER clean & well appointed cottage. The library had an amazing assortment of WWII books & many others. Full size washer/dryer, new sheets, towels, shower curtain… very nice. Easy to get to and get in.. very quiet! Thank you for a wonderful stay! Highly Recommend!
