« We were pleased with how central the property is - with a 5 year old and 2 year old it was lovely to be able to walk everywhere. The rooms were lovely and the house was well equipped. We were surprised to see the ghost tour stops right outside the house, but didn’t dwell on that too much! »

« The cottage is built unusually which my three kids loved. You go up a short flight of stairs as you go in and that takes you to a nice kitchen with plenty room for a family to eat in. You then go up another flight of stairs. There’s a large bathroom with shower, a living area and a bedroom.(single bed). You dig up another flight of stairs to two bedrooms, one double, one twin. « The house was everything we hoped for and more. The decor is spot on and there can't be many houses in Whitby with a better vista. The only thing I would say though is that it is very difficult to load and unload...Church St car park was packed so we had to use the Abbey car park which is a gruelling up/downhill slog for the less fit/able. Be prepared to travel very light as you can't get close to the property with a car. Having said that, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would return. »

« Loved the hot tub and private garden as we had 2 dogs. The walk in the forest was lovely and convenient as on our doorstep. If we were being picky, the road leading to the property was at times quite bumpy, so caution with speed is required, but what the property itself has to offer made up for it. It is a home away from home and a good place to getaway from the hustle of life. »

« A lovely stay at the Royal Oak for one night. Very friendly and attentive staff. They were more than happy to arrange late access to the property due to us having to return to the room late at night. Breakfast was excellent, with options for full English or kippers, plus plenty of toast, cereals, fruit, yoghurt. The car park is very small, and can't accommodate all vehicles, however there is ample parking on the road at the front of the property. The room was comfortable with clean linens....

Water damage on the walls, peeling paint, leaking toilets, a broken shower and windows that haven’t been cleaned in years.
