This house had major cleanliness issues. One of the beds appeared to have been slept in without the sheets being changed. The comforter was pulled up to make it look like the bed was made, so we didn’t discover this until right before bedtime. Therefore, we felt we couldn’t trust any of the beds and stayed up until 5:30 am to wash the sheets on each bed we were using. I contacted the host about this. When she responded the next morning, she assured me the sheets had been washed and apologized that one looked slept in. I can accept that this was probably correct for most of the beds, but I can confidently say that one bed had dirty sheets. I asked for a credit for the approx. $10 we spent on laundry detergent, since it’s not provided in the house. She refused, since I booked the “new listing discount” rate. According to her, that rate assumes that the listing would have problems, since we were their 2nd guests ever. This is contrary to what a VRBO customer service rep told me; the rate is meant to attract potential guests to the property in order to begin acquiring positive reviews. I can assure you that had we known we would have had to stay up almost all night washing sheets that should’ve already been washed, we would’ve stayed somewhere else, discount or not. I also wanted to ask for a refund of the first night but decided it was pointless, since she was clearly unwilling to accommodate.
There were also several bags of foul-smelling trash on the enclosed back porch. The microwave and stove were dirty. The dishwasher had mold stains on the inside of the door. Also, the detergent door doesn’t open during the wash cycle, so the dishes are cleaned w/ water only.
There was used soap in the shower, and one extra bar of unused soap high up in a cabinet that we didn’t discover until after we went to buy soap.
In all fairness, the host had not used that housekeeper before. Also, we arrived the same day that the previous guests left, which, according to the host, VRBO should not have allowed. The housekeeper struggled to clean the house between their departure and our arrival, so it seems that the house was minimally cleaned. I would’ve preferred for the host to cancel our booking as soon as she realized that VRBO mistakenly allowed us to book the same day that the previous guests were checking out, if she anticipated the cleaning being an issue. However, this wasn’t done, and we had to finish the cleaning ourselves, even after paying a cleaning fee.
