Break off from your sightseeing adventures for a few hours of relaxation at Banje, Dubrovnik’s most famous beach. This scenic stretch of sand and pebbles is situated right outside the walls of the Old Town and has excellent views to Lokrum Island and Dubrovnik’s old port. You may even spot a celebrity here as this beach is known to attract the rich and famous.
Set up for your day on the beach by renting a lounge chair or four-poster bamboo bed. Stretch out and enjoy the view over the sea as music wafts out from the trendy Eastwest bar and café that overlooks Banje. Book a beachside massage here and sip a cocktail as the knots in your muscles are pummeled and stretched.
Take advantage of the clear water of the Adriatic Sea. Go for a swim or rent a snorkel to take in some of the marine life.
Watch the locals play the traditional ball game of picigin and then start up your own game. The sport is played in shallow water and the rules are simple. A fist-sized ball is passed between players and must not hit the ground.
As daylight starts to fade, Eastwest becomes the beach’s focal point, a smart nightspot that attracts a sophisticated set, including models, sportsmen and women and celebrities. Reserve a table at the first floor restaurant, which serves Mediterranean cuisine made from locally sourced seasonal ingredients. Then join the crowds of partygoers on the club’s dance floor as DJs play the latest music mixes.
Banje Beach is situated in front of Ploče Gate, the eastern entrance to the Old Town. Go through the gate and after approximately 300 feet (90 meters) you will reach the beach. The beach’s facilities include showers and toilets.
