Float over schools of tropical fish or walk through lush forests to find the long empty beach of Ao Ton Sai. Dig your feet into the warm sand and relax with a cold drink, then climb the rocks for incredible views.
The coastal retreat of Ao Ton Sai lies a short distance from Krabi Town, but lack of road access keeps the majority of the crowds at bay.
The easiest way to get here is to take a long-tail boat from Ao Nang Pier, a short drive from Krabi Town. The sea journey takes around 20 minutes. The other option is via a 1.5 hour hike through the jungle.
The journeys are well worth it and those who make the effort are rewarded with their very own tropical paradise.
However you get here, you will be greeted by several stunning arcs of white sand and calm, inviting waters. Choose your beach location and lay out your towel for some serious relaxing. If you haven’t brought your own food or other essentials with you, purchase what you need from one of the beach vendors.
If you want to do more than gently doze under the warm sun, take part in more active pursuits. At high tide, make the short stroll inland to a secluded lagoon. Jump off rocks into the water below to cool off.
Rent a kayak from one of the beach bungalows and explore the area by sea. Search for caves and rock pools among the rugged cliffs or set off to the resort of Rai Leh, a short paddle away. Here, you will find more spectacular stretches of sand as well as cliffs and crags that are popular rock climbing destinations. There are hundreds of routes through the limestone formations.
Come back to Ao Ton Sai and pick up where you left off by chilling out on the sand.
